Obama to Trumpet Tourism at Baseball Hall of Fame

President Barack Obama says he's heading to the Baseball Hall of Fame to stress how tourism can lead to good-paying jobs.

In his weekly radio and Internet address, Obama says he'll be in Cooperstown, New York, on Thursday.

Obama also is urging Congress to spend more to modernize U.S. bridges, roads and ports. He says first-class infrastructure attracts first-class jobs.

Obama warns that almost 700,000 jobs are at risk if Congress doesn't authorize more transportation dollars by the end of summer.

In the Republican address, Sen. John McCain of Arizona says reported delays in care for veterans are unconscionable. He says the Department of Veterans Affairs needs to be overhauled.

Obama Shifts Weekend Golf Game to Elite VA Course

President Barack Obama departed from his usual golf routine on Saturday by taking his clubs to an exclusive course in Northern Virginia.

Obama usually plays his standard weekend golf game at Andrews Air Force Base or at Fort Belvoir in Virginia.

But on Saturday the president and his three companions teed off instead at the elite Robert Trent Jones Golf Club on the shores of Lake Manassas in Gainesville, Virginia.

The club, where membership is by invitation only, has played host to four Presidents Cup tournaments since it was established in 1991.

The Obama foursome included his former trade representative, Ron Kirk, and Milton Carroll, the White House said. Carroll is chairman of CenterPoint Energy, a Houston-based public utility company. The third partner was identified as Joe O'Neill.

Saturday was Obama's first time on the Robert Trent Jones course, where nine of the 18 holes run adjacent to the lake.

Former President Bill Clinton played at the club a few times, according to CBS News White House reporter Mark Knoller, a respected chronicler of presidential outings.

Obama Considering New Housing And Budget Leaders

WASHINGTON (AP) Shuffling his second-term Cabinet, President Barack Obama plans to nominate Housing Secretary Shaun Donovan to be budget director and is considering San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro to succeed Donovan, according to people familiar with the selection process.

The moves would raise the profile of two men with close ties to the president.

Donovan is an original member of Obama's Cabinet and is well-liked within the White House, where officials have lauded his work overseeing the government's response to Hurricane Sandy.

As budget director, he would have significant influence over the administration's policy and spending priorities.

Castro's star has been on the rise since Obama picked him to deliver the keynote address at the 2012 Democratic National Convention. The 39-year-old Castro is considered a possible vice presidential pick in 2016.

If Castro is nominated to head the Department of Housing and Urban Development and is confirmed by the Senate, he would become one of the highest-ranking Hispanic officials in the Obama administration.

A person familiar with the selection process said Donovan has been offered the budget director job and has accepted. A person with knowledge of Castro's vetting said the mayor has expressed interest in the housing job and plans to accept if it is offered following a formal screening process.

Both people spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the situation ahead of an official announcement from the White House. The White House said Saturday that it had no personnel announcements to make.

Obama has previously tried to offer Castro a Cabinet post, but the mayor decided to stay in San Antonio and handily won a third term last year.

"This was a job I really did look forward to growing up, when I thought about politics," Castro said in 2011. "So I'm not in a hurry to leave."
