Ten teenagers and one adult are under arrest after a brutal mob attack at a Memphis grocery store.

And at least one witness said the teens appeared to be playing the so-called "knockout game," CBS News correspondent Don Dahler reports.

It's unclear if this was gang-related or had to do with the knockout game, or both, but the violent game has become increasingly popular around the country. The goal: to hit unsuspecting strangers and knock them out with a single punch.

According to police, the mob started beating a customer as he got out of his car in the store's parking lot.

Investigators say that when two employees came to help, the teens attacked, kicking them until they lost consciousness.

A witness said some of the kids threw pumpkins at one of the unconscious victims.

"It didn't seem real," a witness said. "It didn't seem like any of that would happen."

The witness, who asked not to be identified, said this was part of a violent game.

"They were playing a game called 'point them out, knock them out' where they would point someone out and attempt to knock them out or fight them. There was no real reason behind it," the witness said.

Emails circulating around oneWarren County municipality erroneously say the so-called knockout game is being played there, police said today.

Greenwich Townshippolice Chief Richard Hummer says a dispute between an adult and a group of juveniles Friday night was an isolated incident and that no one was assaulted.

The incident began shortly after 8 p.m. in the Greenwich Chase development, just west of Routes 519 and 22, with the juveniles on a sidewalk acting disorderly and shouting profanities at one another, police said.

The adult resident walked up and questioned one of the juveniles, sparking a dispute and call to police, according to a news release from the department; the juveniles left before police arrived.

Emails brought to the department's attention by the township committee made the incident out to be more than it was, reporting an assault and saying it was part of the knockout game. In the so-called game, an assailant -- primarily younger, and part of a group -- assaults someone at random and without provocation, in an attempt to knock the person unconscious, while someone else records it to share online.

"There was nobody assaulted, no punches thrown," Hummer said. "It was a dispute, it wasn't an assault.

"That did not happen. People are under the impression that it did."

No one has been charged with any crime in the incident, which remains under investigation.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (PIX11) A marauding mob of more than 100 teenagers set upon three unsuspecting people outside a Memphis supermarket in a terrifying version of the knockout game, leaving a mess of blood and pumpkins in their wake.

The attacks, which targeted a 25-year-old man and two teenagers, were captured on video by a store employee, according to WREG.

A 25-year-old man was first attacked by the group before two Kroger employees, 17 and 18, tried to help him. The teenage employees fell victim to the rowdy group instead.

Both employees were then hit on the head and face. Pumpkins in excess of 20 pounds were also thrown on their heads as they lay on the ground, the teens reportedly told police.

They followed hitting him with a pumpkin. He was already unconscious, so all you could see was blood and pumpkins, a witness who is a friend of one of the victims told WREG.

The attacks caused the teens to lose consciousness. They were taken to the hospital and released to their parents.

They were playing a game called point them out, knock them out. Where they would point someone out and attempt to knock them out or fight them. There was no real reason behind it, a witness told WREG.

Investigators are working to identify those responsible. Police have arrested a juvenile seen in the video wearing a lime green shirt. He was charged with aggravated riot and acting in concert to: to wit aggravated assault, WREG reported.

Memphis Police Director Toney Armstrong said in a statement Last nights events clearly demonstrates a lack of parental controls and if warranted these parents will also be held accountable.

Under fire Boomers, and ex-Breakers, coach Andrej Lemanis has been vigorously defended by his national association after claims the Australians ''threw'' their final pool game at basketball's World Cup here.

International body Fiba have announced they are investigating Australia's 91-83 Group D defeat to Angola in Gran Canaria which saw them drop to third in the pool.

With Lemanis resting two key starters (New Zealand-born centre Aron Baynes and veteran lefty Joe Ingles) for the game, and barely playing two others (Matthew Dellavedova and David Andersen), speculation was rife in the basketball community that the Boomers had ''tanked'' in order to gain a preferred knockout draw.

They also let a 15-point lead slip away.

Slovenia's NBA star Goran Dragic took to Twitter to vent his frustrations over the manner of the defeat: ''Basketball is a beautiful sport, there is no room for fixing the game like today Australia vs Angola! FIBA should do something about that.''

The result saw the Boomers meet Turkey in the opening round of 16 knockout game in Barcelona, and would also have seen them avoid the hot favourite USA team until the semifinals.

However, if that was their strategy, it backfired badly when the Boomers were stunned 65-64 by Turkey in the opening knockout game and exited the tournament.

Lemanis, who coached the Breakers to a championship threepeat in the Australian NBL, denied the Boomers threw the game and today Basketball Australia came to his defence.

''BA categorically rejects any suggestion that the Australian Boomers were a party to contriving the result of the ... game between Australia and Angola,'' they said via a media release..

''The Boomers went into the game against Angola to win - plain and simple.
