Its a golfers dream: Two inaugural golf tournaments during the month of April in our own backyard, both with local nonprofits benefiting from the proceeds of the event. The inaugural YMCA Charity Golf Tournament to benefit the Helping Others campaign of the Poinciana Family YMCA will be Saturday, April 13, at the Stonegate Golf Club. This is an opportunity to play at this Solivita course and help support our communitys young people. This springtime golf event is open to the first 36 teams. Sponsorships are available. A $500 birdie sponsor includes entry for four people, sponsor name listed on tee box, driving range and putting green. This level sponsorship offers the opportunity to include company information and/or promotional items in players gift bags. These sponsors will also receive program recognition. A $250 par sponsor includes entry for two players and a sponsor name listed on tee box and driving range. This sponsorship also includes program recognition. A hole-in- one sponsor is $100 and includes sponsor name listed on the tee box and name recognition on the event program. An individual players fee is $65. The Helping Others Campaign is the YMCAs annual community support campaign. The Y is committed to healthy spirit, mind and body. It is the Ys belief that personal and social character can come about when we all invest in our kids and our community. This campaign encourages businesses and individuals to donate and help others who, without their support, would not be able to enjoy the benefits of the YMCA and all it has to offer. The event will be a four-person scramble format and will include dinner and award reception following the tournament. As a bonus, a one-year subscription to Golf Digest (a $10 value) will be included with your online registration. Sponsorship opportunities are detailed on-line. Sponsors can register now and be invoiced later. Register at http://www.qcaacfgolf.com/. Early registration has its benefits. The fee for individual golfers is $90. After April 12 the fee is $95. Foursomes are charged $340, but after April 12 its $360. Half of the proceeds will go to the Rotary Club of Kissimmee South/Poinciana and will benefit their three chosen groups- the Poinciana Family YMCA, the Poinciana Teen Center Boys and Girls Club and Project Home. If you or your friends play golf, encourage them to participate in these events. Enjoy the sport while helping worthwhile organizations. ooo If you have a teenager in your life, they will think you are hip if you tell them you are going to pop some tags this Saturday. Shop Liberty High School Saturday. The school will host a Sidewalk Sale, which will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will feature arts and crafts, home/business items and garage sale finds. The party will take place at 6:30 p.m. at the Poinciana Community Center, 395 Marigold Ave. Relay For Life is an overnight community fundraising walk. Teams of people camp out around the track. It is hoped that members from each team take turns walking around the track (implying cancer never sleeps, so should those hoping and working on a cure). This is a family-friendly event, with food, games and activities as well as entertainment. Relay For Life is the American Cancer Societys premier fundraising event. More than 4 million people take part in this global mission and raise much needed money and awareness to save lives from cancer. Relay is an organized overnight community fundraising walk. Teams of people will camp out around the track at Liberty High School beginning at 6 p.m. May 3 and members of each team will take turns walking. This years theme is Happy Birthday to You. This theme is significant for those stricken with cancer that hope to celebrate more birthdays. Each team may select its own birthday party theme. Register a Relay team by recruiting people from work, friends, church or civic groups. Each team is asked to bring $100 to register, and start planning your team involvement the night of March 28 at the team party. Not only is this event an all-night party, its a party with a purpose.
