How to Travel Around the World for $418

S

Steve Kamb decided he wanted to travel the world for as little money as possible. This map is his travel plan: 35,000 miles, visiting four continents, nine countries and 15 cities for just $418. Here's how he got it:

"I have to tell you sir, this is easily the most ridiculous itinerary I've ever put together," said the American Airlines operator the other night as I finalized plans for a worldwide adventure that would make Marco Polo blush. "Well, that makes two of us!" I replied.

And just like that, I had committed myself to almost nine months of international travel.

Yes, that picture above is my actual itinerary.

Beginning this January, I'll start an epic journey that will take me across four continents, through at least nine countries, and into more than fifteen cities. I'll fly on fifteen flights covering a total distance of 35,000 miles. To put that in perspective, that's almost 1.5 times the circumference of the globe. While visiting these locations, I should be able to cross off over a dozen goals from my Epic Quest of Awesome.

Oh, and all of these flights are costing me a grand total of $418.36.

Although I plan to get to Sydney much sooner should a flight open up (and in turn extend some of my SE Asia stops), here is my rough itinerary for 2011:

The Rock Boat Jan 6 10 Los AngelesJan 14 Feb 13 Sydney, Australia Feb 15-20 Auckland, New Zealand Feb 20 Mar 20 Brisbane, Australia Mar 20 Apr 9 Alice Springs, Australia Apr 9 12 Perth, Australia Apr 12 14 Singapore, Malaysia Apr 14 16 Bangkok, Thailand Apr 16 May 9 Hong Kong May 9 12 Shanghai, ChinaMay 12 22 Tokyo, Japan May 22 May 27 San Francisco May 26 Jun 3 (yes I go back in time on the flight home) Portland Jun 3 7 (World Domination Summit!) Boston/Atlanta Jun 8 Jul 30 Chicago Jul 30 Aug 4 Dublin, IrelandAug 5 Sep 2 Madrid, Spain Sep 2 Oct 10 Buenos Aires, Argentina? Oct 15 Nov 30 (not booked yet, but I still have enough miles to make it happen).

Unreal, right? If I were to pay for this adventure with cash and book individual flights, it would cost almost $6,000 (using the cheapest option for each leg on Expedia.com). The best part is, the dates of this adventure aren't set in stone as long as I don't change WHERE I'm going, I can change the date and time of each stop without penalty.

Review: Bambuddha Restaurant, Ibiza – Ibiza Spotlight

Bambuddha restaurant, located on the San Juan Road is one the most famous and best-loved Ibiza restaurants. In fact, I admit that when Ibiza Spotlight heard that they had redesigned the interior and the menu, we were a bit nervous. After all, why reinvent the wheel? Off we went curiously to investigate!

Parking in the large car-park provided, I entered what has always been one of my favourite Ibiza restaurants. Walking into the restaurant for the first time is a classic Ibiza experience. You could be forgiven for thinking you had somehow been teleported to a temple in Goa. Statues of exotic deities gaze serenely upon you as you walk past incredibly beautiful people lounging around in opulent VIP sections decked out in ruby red silk and plush, gold cushions. Erotic artefacts bestow a sensual, decadent ambience beneath the tropical bamboo canopy that shelter diners from the elements whilst allowing for al fresco dining.

The cocktail bar was buzzing. My presence was acknowledged immediately by the smiling bartenders and in no time at all, I was sipping an Erotic blend of cachaa, basil, balsamic, lime, cinnamon and strawberry. Simply delectable.

5 minutes later and our table was ready. Our drinks were carried for us. The menu was handed to us, already open, in the correct language, on the correct page. We were immediately brought water and a gorgeous selection of prawn crackers, olive bread, black olive tapenade and creamy hummus whilst we perused their sumptuous MediterrAsian fusion menu, unique amongst Ibiza restaurants.

Our extremely knowledgeable waiter discussed the menu with us, answering all our questions with easy expertise. Not only could she describe each dish in detail, she even knew the origin of all the produce used and the methods of cooking and preparation. Where was the black Angus steak sourced? In the U.S., from one of the finest black Angus farms in the world. How was it cooked? On a volcanic stone grill using only the finest, Ibiza cherry tree branches, because of the unsurpassed taste it infuses into the meat. Of course.

After great deliberation my companion chose the 24 hours slow roasted lamb and for me, sizzling tiger prawns served on a bed of vegetables in Thai sauce with jasmine rice.

Dazzled by the impressive wine-list, their resident Sommelier came over to discuss our options. Enquiring politely as to our choices for mains, he recommended a soft, mellow red that would compliment both our meals. This wine was chosen for the Oscar ceremonies last year, he informed us proudly. Bambuddha, as you may have begun to realize, is one of the finest Ibiza restaurants there is.

Biodanza Ibiza – Ibiza Spotlight

Biodanza was created in the sixties by a Chilean psychologist and anthropologist by the name of Roland Toro, and the system can now be found in over thirty countries.

So, what exactly is Biodanza?

Well, it has been defined as a "human integration system of organic renewal" and consists of various techniques, including singing, dancing and movement in a group situation, with the aim of connecting deeply to yourself and the rest of the group.

To put it simply, Biodanza is all about happiness, openness, improving relationships and communication skills, and finding the solution to inner conflicts in a harmonious, supportive environment.

Between the 1st and 6th September, Biodanza Ibiza will be taking place at the Cielazul Apartments in Cala Martina and Jordi Oller, one of the organisers with thirty years experience in meditation, Tantra and the development of the Being, took time to explain the motivation behind Biodanza Ibiza.

"We were organising training processes for the Being based on enjoyment," he tells us. "These processes are designed to learn who we want to be. And we all want to be happy people, masters of ourselves, live in peace and enjoy lifeWe decided to apply the extraordinary results of the participants in our processes to the heavenly Ibiza environment, and to explore the island immersed in this context."

The six day programme consists of very powerful activities, such as Tantra, Yoga, Dynamic Meditation, Ecstatic Dance and Coaching, combined with outings and parties, giving participants the opportunity to undergo positive life-changing processes, whilst meeting new people, getting to know the real Ibiza and having a different kind of holiday.

Through "JOY OF BEING" Jordi and his team aim to create good quality residential events based on the developing of the Being, and they also have a special Tantric-coaching programme coming up in October at Agroturismo, Atzaro.

Review: Cream Ibiza Birthday, 1st August – Ibiza Spotlight

Cream Ibiza at Amnesia has its regularswithout doubt who wouldnt want to return for another tasteof thatinsane buzz? But what the Cream BirthdayPartylast night really provedis that Cream is also the perfect night for Ibiza Virgins, introducingthem to the grand scale onwhich the island can celebratein a raucous baptism of synths, lasers and crowd revelry.

It would be ridiculous to call the warm up sets of last night by that name. When we arrived towards the end of Rob Harnettys set in the main room the cavern was already full andjumping. Eddie Halliwell took over at 1.30 and the energy coasted upwards from its already lofty heights, as he smashed out the dirty electro/trance hybrid he puts out these days, a highlight of his set being Daarryl Green & Xendos Oh Yeah. Halliwell is a name and face punters knowand love and he was dancing about the booth like he was Muhammed Ali doing the butterfly, bellowing into the microphone Oh yes oh yes Amnesia, how we doing? (erm thats Coxys line).

Next stop we zipped over to the Terrace to catch some of Burns; I say zipped but by this point nobody was going anywhere in Amnesia faster than a glacial ooze. The club was really, really busy, especially in the Terrace which, whilst making for some incredible sights when hands go in the air and bodies line every surface, just doesnt leave enough dancing room in my opinion, and makes a quick trip to the bar an epic and lengthy squeezathon. All the same, Burns was on form and the crowd were dead keen, mimicking every movement of his dark silhouette against a wildly flashing backdrop.

Then it was Calvin Harris time, and the crowd added choir to its list of collective contributions to the night as thousands of voices chorused his huge hits like Flashback, Bounce and Feel So Close. His homegrown classics were interspersed with uplifting tracks like Avicii and Nicky Romeros I Could Be The One and his own remix of the Fatboy Slim and Riva Starr banger Eat Sleep Rave Repeat. For many Calvin was the main draw card and the pinnacle of the night (just ask the lasers), but for me it was all about Paul Van Dyk, so I glacially oozed my way over to the main room for some full-throttle happy times trance.

Now here was a fun sight. The ever-smiling Paul Van Dyk darting around the place, completely engaged in his part-live, part DJ set, but still finding time to squeeze the hand of every hopeful fan who raised themselves up to the height of the now-accessible DJ booth. He was also thoroughly engaging with Amnesia main room lighting guru Zeles, the two always working as a team to create mood and moments with their chosen tools. Musically his set had everything you could want: the singalongs, the heavy drops, the old school classics like Underworld Born Slippy(playing Live this Sundayat We Love), his own hits like We Are Tonight and Eternity, haunting and beautiful vocal moments like Urban Astronauts Feat. Kate Louise Smith See The Sun (Aurosonic Remix) and epic moments like the Deadmau5 rework of Energy 52s Caf Del Mar. He really took the trance lovers through their paces and crafted a fantastic party and experience during his time in control nice one Paul.

There was still some time to duck into the Terrace, where Laidback Luke was taking the masses into the wee hours with no-mercy electro. I happened to arrive at a more chilled moment when Luke dropped the Bookashade and M.A.N.D.Y. hit Body Language, but as things started to heat up again I felt myself flagging and made an extremely satisfied beeline for bed. Cream as ever, has pulledout every stop to deliver a party of epic proportions.
