Hillary Clinton like youve never seen her before

Hillary Clinton may well be the most "known" politician in the world.

She and her husband, former President Bill Clinton, have been on the national stage for more than two decades -- traveling from Arkansas to the White House to the Senate to the 2008 campaign trail and finally to the State Department. During that time, every look and utterance from Hillary has been examined, then examined again, then analyzed, then overanalyzed.

That's why this series of photos -- shot by LIFE magazine in 1969 as part of a feature on outstanding college students -- is so fascinating. It captures Clinton before she became "HILLARY CLINTON".

LIFE let us have two pictures from their Clinton shoot. You can check all of them out here.

Poll: Who's tougher: Clinton or Obama?

WASHINGTON (CNN) -

Americans have a positive view of Hillary Clinton's personal characteristics that in many cases has only improved with time, and on some key measures of toughness and leadership skills, she scores higher than President Barack Obama, according to a new national poll.

A CNN/ORC International survey released Sunday indicates that most Americans consider the former secretary of state likable, honest, compassionate and admirable. Sixty four percent say she is tough enough to handle a crisis -- 11 percentage points higher than the president. And an equal 64% describe Clinton as a strong and decisive leader -- 14 points higher than the President.

Clinton gets her highest marks (68%) on likeability, and that number is up five points since 2007, as her 2008 bid for the White House was getting underway. Fifty-six percent say she shares their values -- up six points from 2007. And 56% say she is honest and trustworthy -- up five points.

But Americans also think she can handle the job of president. Nearly six in 10 say Clinton can manage the government effectively, 55% believe she can get the economy moving again, and 61% say she has the right experience to be president.

If there is a weakness in the 13 items tested in the poll, it is the number of Americans who say they would be proud to have her as president. At 50%, it is the lowest score that Clinton received in the poll, and it is down seven points since her failed presidential bid in 2008.

"Obviously, there are big partisan divides on Hillary Clinton with most Republicans reluctant to say anything positive about her, and that suggests that views of her personal characteristics may sour once a presidential election gets underway. But right now, Clinton has a reservoir of goodwill that would be the envy of any potential presidential candidate," said CNN Polling Director Keating Holland.

Americans split on president as a leader

As for Obama, a majority of Americans say that the president is not a commanding presence on the world stage -- 57% say that leaders of other countries no longer respect Obama.

Among the U.S. public, views of Obama's leadership skills are split right down the middle. Half think Obama has been a strong and decisive leader, with an equal 50% saying that description does not apply to Obama. There is also a roughly 50/50 split on whether Obama inspires confidence.

Roger Simon Hillary is sick – of the media

IT WAS BACK on Jan. 27, 1998, when Hillary Clinton first used the phrase "vast right-wing conspiracy" to describe the attacks on her husband.

She was appearing with Matt Lauer on NBC's "Today," the day after Bill Clinton had publicly stated: "I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky."

For Hillary, the Monica Lewinsky story was the last straw in what she firmly believed was a conservative conspiracy to get her husband. And Hillary stuck to that belief even after she learned the truth about Bill and Monica.

After all, one or both of the Clintons had been accused of all sorts of ugly things over the preceding years: Whitewater, being involved in the death of Vince Foster, controversial cattle futures trading, international drug smuggling through Mena, Ark., etc.

If you are not familiar with the lurid particulars of the past claims against the Clintons, just wait. As 2016 draws closer, the right wing will provide a refresher course for you.

In fact, it is starting already. In case you haven't heard, Hillary Clinton may have a secret terrible illness that will prevent her from running for President in 2016. Rush Limbaugh, The Daily Caller, Matt Drudge and Roger Stone, often described as a "self-admitted GOP hit man," have spread the rumor.

On Feb. 24 of this year, Stone, who now says he is a libertarian, tweeted:

"@HillaryClinton not running for health reasons. Remember you heard it first from the #StoneZone."

Four days later, Limbaugh began a broadcast this way: "Whispers are persisting, whispers - there's a whisper campaign, folks - that Mrs. Clinton is sick, that she will not run for the presidency because she is sick."

Limbaugh went on to speculate that it was Democrats and not Republicans who were behind the "rumor campaign" because Republicans lack the guts for it.
