STORY HIGHLIGHTS

Washington (CNN) -- When Hillary Clinton joins candidates across the country, there is a standard formula for those introducing her: Rev up the crowd, tout candidates on the ballot, speak positively about Hillary Clinton.

It appears Sen. Elizabeth Warren didn't get the message.

When Warren and Clinton both stumped for Martha Coakley, Massachusetts' Democratic candidate, in Boston on Friday, Warren barely mentioned the former secretary of state.

"Happy to welcome Secretary Clinton back to the commonwealth," Warren said, firing up the crowd. "We love it!"

Warren has seen an uptick in speculation that she will run for president lately. While the senator has said she isn't running for president, she has left the door open and has continually dodged question about Clinton. The reason: If Warren were to run, she would likely face Clinton, the former secretary of state is widely seen as the frontrunner for the Democratic nomination.

Clinton, by comparison, was effusive in her praise of Warren, the pride of many liberals because of her commitment to take on Wall Street and big banks.

Hillary Clinton and Senator Elizabeth Warren are in town to campaign on behalf of Martha Coakley, and that boost couldnt come at a better time for the Democratic gubernatorial candidate.

Clintons speech concentrated on womens economic issues, including paid sick time (a Coakley talking point) and equal pay for equal work.

A 20th century economy is not going to work for 21st century women and families, Clinton said. Isnt it amazing that were still debating that women deserve equal pay for equal work?

As the attorney general looked on from behind the podium, Clinton lauded Coakleys work in government over the years.

I have followed this race with great attention, Clinton said. It should not even be close.

The event came a day after Republican candidate Charlie Baker took a nine-point lead 45 percent to 36 percent in the latest poll from The Boston Globe. Thats a major shift from just last week, when the two candidates were virtually tied.

Hillary Clinton stumps for Cuomo, but audience seems more interested in her

Hillary Clinton stood with Gov. Cuomo on Thursday to support his bid for a second term but many people at the Manhattan rally seemed more interested in her expected White House bid than this years election.

As Clinton moved to the podium, shouts of 2016! 2016! erupted in the Grand Hyatt ballroom, a more raucous reception than the one Cuomo would receive minutes later.

And when she finished with her introduction of the governor, about two dozen attendees quietly filed out the door, not even bothering to stay to hear Cuomos remarks.

Clinton has been touring the U.S. for weeks helping Democrats, and she usually overshadows the candidates she endorses.

This was her first such public event in the city, which is essentially her adopted home town after having served eight years as a senator from New York.

When he took the stage, Cuomo teased at the idea of Clinton running for President in 2016. I hope she does something really, really, really big, he said.

But Cuomo wont be advising her. Its a personal decision, he told reporters afterward. I went through this with another person, named Mario Cuomo, where there was a discussion for many years.

He added, You have to really want to do it . . . . You cant advise. Its like advising someone on whether or not they should marry a person.

In her remarks, Clinton heaped praise on Cuomos Womens Equality Agenda, a cornerstone of his effort to appeal to female voters.

Theres no doubt in my mind that the governor is the right leader, at the right time, with the right plan, Clinton told the crowd of about 500 Democrats.

Hillary Clinton campaigning for Michaud in Scarborough

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will be in Maine on Friday afternoon to campaign for Mike Michaud.

The Democratic Congressman is fighting to take the Blaine House away from Republican Gov. Paul Lepage.

Michaud has received support from Bill Clinton and Michelle Obama.

President Barack Obama is coming to Maine on Thursday to stump for Michaud.

Critics of the Democratic congressman said he needs these big political names to prop him up because he is a weak candidate with a thin record.

"With just 11 days until the election, Democrats are still desperately trying to consolidate liberal support for Congressman Michaud after a disastrous series of debate performances made clear that he is unable to articulate policy positions or even answer the most basic questions about his vision for Maine," Maine Republican Party chairman Rick Bennett said in a statement.

"Mrs. Clinton is on a campaign tour, stumping for any Democrat with a pulse in an attempt to shore up her own presidential aspirations, Bennett said.

Independent Eliot Cutler, who has been polling a distant third in the governor's race, said Friday that Michaud needs to consider stepping aside.

In a Friday morning press release, Cutler is quoted as saying, Maine voters have increasingly come to realize that Mike Michaud cant close the deal with voters -- he cant win, whether Im in the race or not.

Cutlers campaign said Michaud will lose in a head-to-head match-up with LePage even though several major independent polls show the congressman winning in such a scenario.
