ONE EMAIL FROM OBLIVION: HILLARYS BIG BET ON SECRET SERVERWith the revelation that presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton wiped clean any trace of tens of thousands of emails from her time as secretary of state, the 2016 presidential campaign enters a new phase. With a move as audacious as any in the evidence destruction game, Clinton has set her candidacy dangling. Clinton told reporters that the more than 30,000 emails she ordered deleted would have exonerated her, but she destroyed them in the interest of her and her familys privacy. By her reasoning, there is nothing related to emails with foreign powers who donated money to her family foundation. No directions to staffers about dealing with political controversies. No emails to her political network and friends about government business. Nothing official or of a foreign-policy nature. At all. Just yoga lessons and bridal bouquets. And if thats the case, she has nothing to worry about.

But if there are things that Clinton wants to keep from congressional investigators, she had better hope that her deletion crew bleached every corner of the digital world. Because if even a pixel of something Clinton should have handed over is unearthed in her domain or in a musty folder in someone elses email system, Clinton would be a political goner. Her bold move to destroy emails even after being asked for them by the government would leave her in major-league trouble in the middle of her second presidential run. And Clinton has placed herself in the digital shark cage. If theres anything amiss, shed better hope that her IT guys are the very best on the business.

2016 DEMOCRATIC POWER INDEX: OMALLEY SHOWS MUSCLE Presidency not a crown - WaPo: Former Maryland governor Martin OMalley took a swipe at likely 2016 contenders Hillary Rodham Clinton and Jeb Bush on Sunday, saying that the presidency of the United States is not some crown to be passed between two families. Appearing on ABCs This Week, OMalley, who is weighing a possible run against Clinton for the Democratic nomination, called the presidency an awesome and sacred trust to be earned and exercised on behalf of the American people. OMalley who at times has been reluctant to take on Clinton directly declined to say whether he thought the former secretary of state would stand up to Wall Street and other special interests. I dont know where she stands, he told host George Stephanopoulos. Will she represent a break with the failed policies of the past? Well, I dont know.

Its a near certainty that a few weeks from now Hillary Clinton will be a full-fledged presidential candidate, campaigning through New Hampshire and Iowa with a vast press corps in tow.

Some politicians relish the campaign trail: the rope lines, rallies and photo ops. For Mrs. Clinton, its more of an ordeal to be borne. One veteran of her past races said that if Mrs. Clinton had her druthers shewould delay entering the race as long as possible, perhaps waiting until deep into the summer.

Yet if the fallout fromstoriesabout her email practices as secretary of state and foreign donations to the Clinton Foundation have made anything clear, its that Mrs. Clinton cant afford to wait.If shes going to run, she needs to start the race. Now.

Mrs. Clinton had a rough winter and theabsence of a campaign operation made matters worse. She had a bare-bones press operation to deal with an avalanche of media inquiries. Other than through paid speeches, she had scant opportunity to change the subject and focus attention on the issues that shed prefer to be front and center: jobs, wages, the middle class and equal pay for women.Republicans, meantime, are casting her absence from the campaign as a sign shes ducking tough questions.

While Mrs. Clinton dealt with questions about computer servers and the finer points of public record retention law, one potential rival for the party nomination, former Maryland Gov. Martin OMalley, drew a standing ovation during a recent Iowa speech warning about Wall Street excesses.

Mr. OMalley seems ready for a fight. Speaking to ABC on Sunday he took a genuine swipe at Mrs. Clinton (and Republican Jeb Bush, too), saying the presidency isnt a crown to be passed between two families.

Maybe this isnt a test run for 2020 or 2024. Maybe Mr. OMalley wants to run and win.

Polls show he has a long way to go to catch Mrs. Clinton, but hes on the trail and shes not a reality that could make an impression on Iowa Democrats eager to see and hear from the candidates.

Absent a campaign team, Mrs. Clinton has relied on a few surrogates from the 1990s to defend her amid the email and foundation revelations.This hasnt gone so well.
