Judge Rules O’Keefe’s Schemes Can Be Portrayed to Jury as ‘Political Spying’ – The Daily Beast

A federal judge has dealt conservative figure James OKeefe a legal blow, ruling that his groups undercover operations against a Democratic consulting firm can fairly be described at an upcoming million-dollar trial as political spying.

Making matters worse for the right-wing star, the judge cited OKeefes own book as evidence against him.

In 2016, Allison Maass, an operative for OKeefes Project Veritas group, took an internship at Democratic firm Democracy Partners under a fake name. While staffers at the firm thought Maass was working to elect Democrats in the 2016 campaign, she was secretly recording them and relaying undercover video and notes on the group to Project Veritas. Project Veritas eventually released the video, prompting Democracy Partners founder Robert Creamer to step back from the Hillary Clinton campaign.

Creamer and Democracy Partners sued Project Veritas in 2017 over the sting. Now, with the trial set for December, OKeefes lawyers wanted to preemptively prevent the plaintiffs lawyers from describing Project Veritass work in court as political spying.

In an Oct. 14 court opinion, though, U.S. District Court Judge Paul L. Friedman ruled that its reasonable to describe OKeefes groups actions in that way.

Political spying is a fair characterization of the undisputed facts of this case, Friedman, a Bill Clinton appointee, wrote.

OKeefes lawyers had argued that Project Veritas operates as journalists, an argument that would likely make it easier at trial for Project Veritas to claim their activities were protected under the First Amendment. But much of the evidence that Project Veritass operation could be called spying came from OKeefes own 2018 book, American Pravda.

Describing the Democracy Partners sting in his book, OKeefe wrote that Maass worked under an assigned role and compared her to a spy working in the Soviet Unionliterally living out her character in Americas capital city much as Americans overseas did in Moscow during the Cold War.

As if to make the comparison between Maass and notorious political spying operations clearer, OKeefe wrote in his book that Maass devised a way to hide her recording device from metal detectors and even compared Maass to the Watergate burglars.

The last time operatives got caught stealthily entering the DNC headquarters, those headquarters were in the Watergate complex, OKeefe wrote. Remember that kerfuffle?

This lawsuit is further exposing the lows to which Creamer will stoop to attack the first amendment, this time by calling undercover reporting political spying, Project Veritas said in a statement. Creamers actions are antithetical to a free press and should be denounced by all reporters.

In another setback for OKeefe, Friedman also ruled that lawyers for Democracy Partners can introduce proof of ties between Project Veritas, and Donald Trump.

The evidence includes OKeefe meeting with Trump during the 2016 campaign and his appearance at Trumps election-night party and could be offered to prove that Project Veritas staffers operated as political operatives, instead of journalists. The plaintiffs also won the right to introduce video of anti-Muslim activist and then-Project Veritas employee Laura Loomer hitting a piata shaped like Hillary Clinton as evidence.

Supporters of the QAnon conspiracy theory are banned from mainstream social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter, but their baseless claims continue to get traction.

In March, USA TODAY debunkedan articlethat claimedNavy SEALs loyalto former President Donald Trump arrested former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for treason. The claim was fictional, but an "update" on Clinton's purported arrest is now circulating on TikTok and Instagram.

The video, which has more than 29,000 views on TikTok, shows an April 26 article from Real Raw News, a website that has previously published false claims related to QAnon. The article saysClinton was hanged for crimes like murder and child trafficking.

"Scrambled eggs with jalapeno peppers, and a strawberry milkshake. The last meal of the condemned," the article says.

None of these claims are true.

USA TODAY reached out to Real Raw News and several pages that posted the videofor comment.

There is no evidence to support the events detailed in Real Raw News' article.

The series from Real Raw News on Clinton's "arrest" relies heavily on the baseless QAnon conspiracy theory, whichgained an online following in 2017. The theory asserts the existence of aglobal cabal of Satan-worshipping, cannibalistic child sex traffickers whose members are part of the United States government, media and Hollywood.

Clinton is a key part of the conspiracy theory. QAnon supporters say Trump's election was part of an elaborate scheme to prosecute purported pedophiles like Clinton, as well as celebrities like Tom Hanks and Oprah Winfrey.

QAnon's claims are not based in fact, and many of the conspiracy theory's predictions proved wrong.Real Raw News' articleprovides no source, nor any public records of a trial, arrest or execution. No credible media organization has reported that Clinton died or was arrested.

AsPolitiFact reported, Clinton is alive and wasactive during the period detailed by Real Raw News.

Why Hillary Clinton Will Be Seen But Not Heard for the Majority of Impeachment: American Crime Story – Yahoo Entertainment

(Warning: This post contains spoilers for Episode 1 of Impeachment: American Crime Story.)

Hillary Clinton was arguably one of the people most affected by the affair between her husband President Bill Clinton and former White House intern Monica Lewinsky, and the subsequent scandal that broke out when the then-commander-in-chief lied under oath about his sexual relationship with Lewinsky.

But in the Tuesday premiere of FXs Impeachment: American Crime Story, Hillary Clinton (played by Edie Falco), then the first lady of the United States, is seen only once and has just one line, Hello, which she says to White House employee Linda Tripp (Sarah Paulson) while they are both washing their hands in the West Wings communal ladies room in a scene that takes place during Clintons (Clive Owen) first term.

However, she will be saying more than that, eventually, according to Sarah Burgess, who wrote the Ryan Murphy-produced Impeachment.

I can tell you, yes, you will hear Hillary Clinton talk. I know I have a spoiler mentality (laughs), but you will hear Hillary Clinton talk, Burgess said. Look, shes sort of a specter, sort of a mysterious figure there. I think of that Episode 1 is told from Lindas point of view. Linda Tripps interaction with Hillary is going to be things like the bathroom. You know, which she, in real life, hilariously said, Mrs. Bush would rather be catheterized than use a public restroom. Its like my favorite thing, that Linda Tripp actually said that. Im obsessed with the fact she used that word and everything. She was like judging Hillary, but also excited to see Hillary. And what Ryan [Murphy, who directed the premiere] and Sarah did with that scene was so great.

We can tell you right now, having seen the first seven episodes of the 10-episode season that are available to media, that the former FLOTUS is only seen a handful of times after this first episode and has no other lines until Episode 7. And that is for good reason, according to Burgess.

Story continues

As the story affects Hillary more I always tell the story, as Ken Starrs life is impacted by the Monica-Linda-Bill situation, then Ken Starr is activated, Burgess said, referring to independent counsel who led the investigation that ended in Bill Clintons impeachment. As Hillarys life is affected by the situation, shes activated. So that is the idea behind it. And in the episodes youve seen, Hillarys life is not being affected directly in a way that shes aware, based on all of my research.

She will speak, Burgess promised of Falcos Hillary. It would be a crazy thing where I cast one of Americas greatest actors to not speak.

New episodes of Impeachment: American Crime Story air Tuesdays at 10/9c on FX.

Hillary Clinton Tweet About Texas and Abortion Resurfaces As New Ban Takes Effect – Newsweek

A tweet from former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is gaining renewed attention after the U.S. Supreme Court voted to allow a restrictive new Texas abortion law to go ahead.

In a series of tweets on February 16, 2016, Clinton discussed the importance of filling a Supreme Court seat left vacant by the death of Associate Justice Antonin Scalia three days earlier.

Clinton, who was the 2016 Democratic presidential nominee, warned at the time that a pending case from Texas could be decisive on the matter of women's access to abortion.

Some Twitter users shared the tweet and many posted new reactions to it on Wednesday.

Clinton tweeted: "And right now, a case from Texas could determine whether the right to abortion will be a reality for all or some."

She was apparently referring to Whole Woman's Health v. Hellerstedt. The Supreme Court heard oral arguments on the case on March 2, 2016 and issued a decision on June 27, 2016.

The court ruled in a 5-3 decision to strike down a Texas law that imposed strict regulations on doctors and facilities providing abortions.

The majority found that the 2013 law placed an undue burden on women accessing their right to an abortion. That right was enshrined in law by the landmark 1973 ruling in Roe v. Wade.

Scalia, the most prominent conservative on the court at the time, passed away on February 13, 2016, and then President Barack Obama nominated Merrick Garland to succeed him. However, the Republican Senate majority refused to hold hearings on Garland's nomination and blocked his appointment to the court.

The open seat was later filled by President Donald Trump's nomination of Neil Gorsuch, who voted with the majority on Wednesday in refusing an emergency stay of the Texas law.

Some social media users suggested Clinton's 2016 tweets were prophetic, though she was referring to a different Texas abortion which had a different outcome once it came to the court.

The Supreme Court failed to respond to the request for an emergency stay of the law on Tuesday, allowing it to take effect at midnight on Wednesday. Clinton responded to the court's inaction on Twitter.

"Under the cover of darkness, by choosing to do nothing, the Supreme Court allowed an unconstitutional abortion ban in Texas to go into effect last night. Their decision doesn't change the fact that reproductive rights are human rights. We'll fight for them," she wrote.

A legal challenge to the Texas abortion ban is ongoing and no court has yet ruled on the law's constitutionality, as the majority pointed out in an unsigned order issued just before midnight on Thursday.

Did Hillary Clinton predict Texas abortion ban? Former FLOTUS’ 2016 tweet goes viral – MEAWW

An old tweet of Hillary Clinton has gone viral on the internet after the US Supreme Court upheld the Texas abortion ban. On late Wednesday night, September 1, three former president Donald Trump-appointed justices along with two other conservative justices decided to block a Texas law that prohibits abortions after six weeks of pregnancy. However, Chief Justice John Roberts and the court's three liberal judges disagreed with the decision.

The ruling stated, In reaching this conclusion, we stress that we do not purport to resolve definitively any jurisdictional or substantive claim in the applicants' lawsuit. In particular, this order is not based on any conclusion about the constitutionality of Texas's law, and in no way limits other procedurally proper challenges to the Texas law, including in Texas state courts.

But one tweet that garnered everyones attention is the former secretary of states "prediction" from way back in 2016. It left people wondering if the 73-year-old knew that this was going to happen beforehand. A user named Jake Lobin shared Hillarys old tweet with a caption, Tweet sent: February 15, 2016 Hillary Clinton was right... About EVERYTHING. The tweet by the former first lady had noted at the time, 5 and right now, a case from Texas could determine whether the right to abortion will be a reality for all or some.

A person reacting to Hillary's old tweet said, This is why elections matter. Hillary Clinton was always right about everything. Things could have been so different. Now you know the panic we all so feared with the passing of #RBG. The second one noted, Hillary has a wide breadth of knowledge but too many ignorant Americans voted for the three card monte dealer. People, even a lot of Democrats, couldnt deal with having a brilliant woman in charge. All of them are to blame, the third one added.

A tweet read, Elections have consequences. I wonder how all those self-righteous pricks who couldn't find it in their heart to vote for Hillary feel right about now. The SCOTUS would have an entirely different make up and women wouldn't have to worry about losing their goddamn rights.
