(CNN) -- George Zimmerman's parents are suing Roseanne Barr for tweeting their home address, which they say forced them to go into hiding for years.

Robert and Gladys Zimmerman have filed a lawsuit against Barr, accusing the comedian and actress of posting "an open and obvious call for vigilante justice," which she intended "to cause a lynch mob to descend" on their Lake Mary, Florida, home.

"It was foreseeable that the tweets would cause Robert and Gladys Zimmerman to have to flee their house in the middle of the night and never to be able to return, have to face a descent of media and others who would seek to do harm to Robert and Gladys Zimmerman and to their home, and have to live in seclusion to protect their personal and emotional well being," the civil complaint said.

The Zimmermans accuse Barr of "intentional infliction of emotional distress" and "invasion of privacy" with the message to her 110,000 Twitter followers on March 29, 2012.

The lawsuit does not indicate exactly how much the couple is asking for in damages.

The tweet was published a month after their son killed 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in a Florida subdivision, when national attention was focused on the incident and amid calls for Zimmerman's arrest. A Florida jury acquitted Zimmerman of second-degree murder and manslaughter charges in the shooting of the unarmed teenager in a highly-publicized 2013 trial.

March. 12 (UPI) -- George Zimmerman is tired of being defined by his media coverage, so he is releasing a video Wednesday in order to be seen without the "filter" of the media.

Since the February 2012 shooting death of Trayvon Martin become a national cause clbre, Zimmerman, who was acquitted of Martin's murder last year, has often been in the news for several alleged domestic violence incidents and even attending a gun show.

"I wanted to allow America to see me for who I truly am without the filter or subject to any interpretation," Zimmerman says in the video, released by the lawyers representing him in his divorce case.

In the clip, Zimmerman says he is "figuring out every day" who the real George Zimmerman is.

"I try and be a good person, a faithful person, a family man," he says. "But I do realize that I've been through a lot in life, and for better or worse, everything I do is hyperanalyzed, whether it's good or bad ..."

Zimmerman's wife, Shellie Zimmerman, filed for divorce September 5.

George Zimmerman's parents are suing actress Roseanne Barr in Florida, claiming a Twitter post she made listing their address and telephone number forced them to flee their home.

Robert and Gladys Zimmerman filed the lawsuit on Monday. It seeks undisclosed damages for emotional distress and invasion of privacy.

The Zimmermans say they were forced to flee their home after Barr posted their address and telephone number about a month after their son fatally shot Trayvon Martin in February 2012. They also claim they were forced into hiding.

Zimmerman was acquitted last summer of any crime in the shooting of the 17-year-old Martin. The case inspired protests nationwide and raised questions about gun control laws and race.

A Barr spokesman didn't return an email or voicemail seeking comment.

George Zimmerman, the former neighborhood watch volunteer who was acquitted of murder for fatally shooting Trayvon Martin, said in an interview released Wednesday that he's trying to be a good person and he thinks he can help others after what he has gone through.

Zimmerman said in a videotaped interview with his divorce attorneys that he was trying to figure out who he is and he was doing the interview to "show America who I truly am."

During the more than 20-minute interview, Zimmerman, dressed in a gray blazer and blue dress shirt, looks directly at the camera as he sits in an office chair. When asked by an off-camera attorney what his daily life is like, Zimmerman said he worries constantly about his safety.

"The only thing consistent is having to always look over my shoulder and be concerned about others around me," he said.

Zimmerman said he's trying to be a faithful family man but realizes that everything he does, good or bad, is heavily scrutinized.

Zimmerman was acquitted last summer of all charges for fatally shooting the 17-year-old Martin in a gated community where Zimmerman lived. Since his acquittal, Zimmerman has had brush-ups with the law following separate confrontations with his now-estranged wife, Shellie, and a former girlfriend, Samantha Scheibe. Neither Shellie Zimmerman nor Scheibe pursued charges against Zimmerman and the investigations ended without an arrest.

The trial over Martin's death last summer raised questions about race and gun control laws and inspired protests around the nation. Martin was black. In the video, Zimmerman described his father as white and his mother as Peruvian and said he grew up in a Hispanic household. He also said his great-grandfather was Afro-Peruvian.

One of Zimmerman's divorce attorneys, Howard Iken, told The Associated Press on Wednesday that the divorce process involves "moving on and having a new life," and that the video's release helps Zimmerman by allowing him to control his message.

"The publicity surrounding him is unfair and misinformed, especially the allegations he is a racist or bigot," Iken said.

Regarding his future, Zimmerman revealed that he would like to be able to go to law school and become a civil rights or defense attorney some day.

On a grand scale, I would like to make enough of an impact on the judicial system so that what happens to me never happens to anybody, he said.

Zimmermans interview is the latest happening to occur since his acquittal last summer for the fatal shooting of Martin. Since then, Zimmerman has generated headlines for encounters with the law pertaining to confrontations with his now-estranged wife, Shellie, and former girlfriend, Samantha Scheibe. Zimmerman emerged from both situations unscathed without an arrest in light of no charges pursued against him by neither Scheibe nor Shellie Zimmerman.
