No charges against George Zimmerman for allegedly throwing …

Published January 30, 2015

George Zimmerman won't be charged for allegedly throwing a bottle of wine at his girlfriend, Florida State Attorney Phil Archer said Friday.

Zimmerman, 31, was arrested Jan. 9 for suspicion of aggravated assault inside his parents' Lake Mary residence.

"While it is clear that the officers had probable cause to arrest Mr. Zimmerman which was affirmed by the circuit court judge at initial appearances, the subsequent recantation by the victim of her initial statement along with new documents provided by the victim and her attorney precludes my office from proceeding further," Archer said in a statement.

Neither Zimmerman nor his girlfriend called 911 during the incident. Police learned of the alleged fight when Zimmerman's girlfriend was pulled over during a routine traffic stop and told the officer she was just involved in an altercation with George Zimmerman.

Zimmerman was acquitted of second-degree murder and manslaughter in the February 2012 shooting death of unarmed 17-year-old Trayvon Martin inside a gate community in Sanford, Fla.

Prosecutors drop charges in George Zimmerman assault case …

ORLANDO, Fla., Jan. 30 (UPI) -- George Zimmerman, the Florida man acquitted of killing Trayvon Martin, won't be prosecuted in a domestic violence case, prosecutors said Friday.

Zimmerman's former roommate, Brittany Brumelle, has recanted the story she gave police Jan. 5, the State Attorney's Office said. At the time, she told officers who responded that Zimmerman was a "psychopath" and had thrown a wine bottle at her and broken her phone.

The officers came to their home after they heard breaking glass and saw a woman driving away without headlights on.

Zimmerman was arrested four days later even though Brumelle did not want to press charges.

Zimmerman, now 31, was a neighborhood watch volunteer in Sanford when he shot Martin, 17, in November 2012. He said the unarmed black teenager jumped him as he followed Martin through the gated community where the teen was staying with a relative and was found not guilty in a jury trial.

Since his acquittal, Zimmerman has been accused four times of violent incidents and has avoided prosecution each time.

The first was in September 2013, when his estranged wife said he hit her father and threatened to shoot her. In November 2013, a girlfriend told police he pointed a shotgun at her when she said she wanted to break up with him and last year he allegedly threatened another driver in a road rage incident.

The State Attorney's Office released body-cam video Friday of the Jan. 5 incident. Brumelle told officers she and Zimmerman got into a violent argument when she said she and her 5-year-old son were moving out.

"Why that man is not locked up is beyond me," she said, also calling Zimmerman "insane."

Brumelle told police she and Zimmerman were not involved in a sexual relationship but had had one encounter after drinking.

George Zimmerman won’t be charged in alleged wine-throwing …

For the second time in just over a year, prosecutors have backed away from filing criminal charges against George Zimmerman in a domestic-violence case because a woman, initially upset and angry, has changed her story.

This time, the allegation was that Zimmerman had thrown a wine bottle at a woman who had just moved out. Last year, it was a different girlfriend who said he had pointed a shotgun at her and locked her out of the house.

Neither woman was injured.

Zimmerman, 31, is the former Sanford Neighborhood Watch volunteer acquitted of second-degree murder for shooting Trayvon Martin, an unarmed black 17-year-old, on Feb. 26, 2012.

He did not return a phone call Friday.

Since his trial, he's had several encounters with the police.

Twice he's been arrested, accused by girlfriends of getting violent during breakups, and in 2013, his estranged wife accused him of threatening her and her father with a gun while they were moving out her belongings.

The most recent event was three weeks ago when he was arrested Jan. 9, accused by Lake Mary police of aggravated assault.

At 11:30 p.m. four days earlier, an officer heard breaking glass and saw 28-year-old Brittany Brunelle, Zimmerman's dental hygienist, drive away from their home without turning on her headlights.

When officers pulled her over, she told them that she and Zimmerman had argued about her decision to move out.
