THE 160-year-old Eureka spirit was the grounding of a Ballarat success story into politics.
Speaking at the Eureka Stockade 160th anniversary at the Museum of Australian Democracy at Eureka (M.A.D.E), former Victorian Premier and museum patron Steve Bracks, said the battleat Ballarat 160 years ago helped shape democracy in Australia.
LISTEN TO MR BRACKS'SPEECH
"Standing for office in Ballarat, then as a shadow minister and then the premier, the Eureka story is something I carried forward in government - how important it is to have equal rights," Mr Bracks said.
"Ballarat was the making of me. I worked here, joined the Labor Party here andhelped run campaigns.
"I don't think I would have been successful if I didn't have that grounding I had in Ballarat."
