Ann Coulter Rips Impeachment Hearing Witnesses For Telling Sad Stories: They Made Me Embarrassed to be a WASP – Mediaite

Conservative commentator and author Ann Coulter claimed she was embarrassed to be a WASP after watching the Foggy Bottom witnesses with cush jobs during the first day of the impeachment hearings against President Donald Trump last week.

These Democrat witnesses have to stop thinking this is Queen For a Day.I dont mean in the indictment sense, I mean an old TV show even before my time where women would come on and tell sad stories and then win, like, a washing machine. Its all these sad stories, declared Coulter in a video for the Daily Caller. The first day of impeachment, to paraphrase Michelle Obama for the first time in my life, I was embarrassed to be a WASP. Oh my good lord, these Foggy Bottom We dont need foreign emissaries We dont need ambassadors!

It used to take three months to sail from New York to London. We have telephones now. We have the internet. Really dont need them, they get these cush jobs, just eliminate the whole thing. Theyre wrong about everything. They didnt know about 9/11, they didnt know Iraq was about to invade Kuwait. They famously said the Shah was just fine, five minutes before he fled the country in the middle of the student revolution that took hundreds two hundred Americans hostage, she continued. They have never seen anything coming. Never, never, never, We just pay them to go around and be these great poobahs. They think the inter-agency runs foreign policy. Um, no, check the Constitution. The president does.

But that isnt my main objection to Marie Yovanovitch or whatever her name is. She begins with her Queen For a Day story, saying she came here and became a nationalized American citizen from the Soviet Union at age 18, Coulter complained. Fantastic! Lets bring in a lot of people from other countries, with ancient ethnic grievances, and put them in our State Department so they can, you know, take revenge on their ancient rivals. Lets get the Turks and Armenians going too. No! Were America. America It used to be that to be in Army intelligence you could not have a parent born in a foreign country. Foreign countries including Canada.

Coulter concluded, This is the whole problem with putting immigrants, first generation, second generation, into government positions. They are pursuing ancient ethnic rivalries that have nothing to do with America.

Ann Coulter Vows Not to Watch Impeachment Hearings, Live-Tweets Reactions – Newsweek

Conservative pundit Ann Coulter tweeted a live commentary of the first public impeachment hearing against President Donald Trump, after earlier claiming she would refuse to watch the event.

Coulter claimed on Tuesday night that she would be taking the "honorable" position of refusing to watch the hearing, while urging others to follow her example.

"Partly for reasons of honor, mostly because it's calcifyingly boring, I'm not watching a minute of the hearings and neither should you," she tweeted.

However, when the hearing took place Wednesday morning, Coulter was apparently unable to resist. She sent out a series of tweets detailing the proceedings and later issued an admission that she had "backslid" on her earlier promise to ignore the hearing.

Coulter wrote a praiseful book about then-candidate Trump just before the 2016 election, titled In Trump We Trust, but in recent times her views on the president have soured. Most of her criticism appears to be centered on Trump's failure to complete the building of a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.

The pundit's opinion in general seems to be heavily influenced by immigration policy. In April, she suggested she would be willing to ignore "the rest of that socialism stuff" and vote for Senator Bernie Sanders if he kept his "original position" on immigration.

On Tuesday she replied dramatically to a tweet Trump made suggesting that a hypothetical deal could be struck with Democrats to allow Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) immigrants to stay in the country.

"Okay, that does it. I give up. They can stay. You must go," she replied.

Earlier in the year, Trump responded to Coulter's criticism by calling her a "wacky nut job."

However, she appears to be largely supporting the Trump in the matter of impeachment and is clearly disdainful of Democratic efforts to move the forward with the proceedings.

During the hearing Wednesday morning, she ridiculed diplomat Bill Taylor's testimony by issuing a personal insult and suggesting that he was using patriotism to avoid scrutiny.

"QUICK SUMMARY: 1st witness pompous ass who spent 10 minutes saying no one may question anything he says," tweeted Coulter. "HE IS A PATRIOT! HIS FATHER WAS A PATRIOT! How can you question him? It would be treasonous."

Twelve minutes later, the political commentator admitted that she had failed to follow through with her pledge to ignore the proceedings.

"Okay, fine, I backslid and listened to a few minutes, but now I have the whole picture: It's a policy disagreement, featuring self-important bureaucrats telling us that their views are better than THE ELECTED PRESIDENT OF THE U.S.," she tweeted.

Later in the day, she tweeted about the hearing several more times. Coulter does not appear to have indicated whether she will be monitoring further hearings, nor has she made any suggestions on the matter to her followers on social media.

Conservative Speaker Ann Coulter to Visit UC Berkeley – NBC Bay Area

Controversy at what cost? That's what some UC Berkeley students are wondering about Ann Coulter's visit next week.

The conservative pundit was supposed to speak on campus in 2017, but the event was canceled due to security concerns.

Berkeley police confirm it will have officers on campus to back up university police.

"We're really excited," said Matt Ronnau, president of the Berkeley College Republicans. "I was a freshman when we tried to bring Ann in 2017 and didn't get to hear her speak because of problems with the university."

The Berkeley College Republicans student group invited the right-wing speaker to share her views on immigration on campus largely known for its left-wing students.

"This person's going to come and just talk about some things that are really just going to be attacking some vulnerable populations," UC Berkeley student Aldo Garcia said. "Some of these students are DACA students."

Student Ricardo Reyes thinks Coulter's upcoming visit will be a repeat of what occured when Milo Yiannopoulos visited in 2017. His scheduled speech sparked protests and series of violent clashes between pro- and anti-Trump protesters.

"We have every reason to believe this event will go off safely and successfully just like dozens of others in the last few years," UC Berkeley spokesman Dan Mogulof said.

Mogulof said UC Berkeley has hosted several conservative speakers in the years since without incident and with security costs totaling about $4 million. The university spent $800,000 on Coulter's planned visit two years ago.

"When all was said and done, the speaker decided not to come of her own volition," Mogulof said. "We regret to have had to spend that kind of money for an event that never happened."

UC Berkeley does not have an amount on how much they are spending on security for next week's visit. Some students said the money would be better spent on places to study.

The Berkeley College Republicans said the school should decrease spending elsewhere and preserve the right to free speech.

Coulter's talk starts at 9 p.m. Wednesday.

How Donald Trump Jr. Landed Smack in the Middle of a Right-Wing Civil War – The Daily Beast

Donald Trump Jr. had just started talking about his new book at UCLA on Sunday when someone in the audience began imitating actor Joaquin Phoenixs unsettlingly loud laughter from Joker.

As the cackles filled the auditorium, Trump Jr. looked into the crowd, unsure whether what he was saying was really that funny.

Things only got worse from there.

Audience members began demanding a chance to question Trump Jr. and the events host, young conservative star and Turning Point USA chief Charlie Kirk. Over chants of Q&A!, Trump Jr.s girlfriend, former Fox News host Kimberly Guilfoyle, took the mic to call her boyfriends detractors losers.

I bet you engage in online dating, because youre impressing no one here to get a date in person, Guilfoyle said.

Unsurprisingly, that didnt win over Trump Jr.s critics. The trio of embattled conservative stars eventually left the stage amid shouts of Q&A and America First.

And their fringe-right hecklers, who call themselves Groypers in a nod to an obese alt-right cartoon toad thats like Pepe the Frog but more racist, notched another win in their new battle against mainstream conservatives.

What a HUGE victory today, 22-year-old white nationalist Nick Fuentes wrote on encrypted messaging app Telegram after the event. Cannot be understated what an incredible win we saw at UCLA.

Whether he knew it or not, Trump Jr. had walked straight into a right-wing civil war that pits Fuentes and his allies against more mainstream conservative stars, including Kirk, podcaster Ben Shapiro, and Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX).

Fuentes, who marched in the 2017 white-supremacist rally in Charlottesville and has made remarks denying the Holocaust, has encouraged his far-right fans to confront conservative figures at Q&A sessions across the country since October. Fuentes and other anti-Semitic personalities coach their supporters on what questions to ask and even how to behave at the events, encouraging them to use Donald Trumps America First rhetoric but aim it at questioning legal immigration, the role of LGBT people in the Trump movement, or United States support for Israel.

Ahead of the UCLA event, Fuentes told his fans to avoid questions about Israel, instead focusing on embarrassing Kirk and hurting his relationship with the Trump family.

The name of the game tomorrow is to expose Kirk in front of Don Jr., Fuentes wrote.

The campus Q&A has long been an asset for figures like frequent White House guest Kirk and right-wing comedian Steven Crowder, who stars in a meme featuring him sitting next to a sign urging his political foes change my mind. Compilations of Shapiro shutting down campus liberals are big draws on YouTube, often captioned with the phrase Ben Shapiro Thug Life to underscore his rhetorical skills.

But this fall, Fuentes and his white-nationalist associates have turned the viral potential of the Q&A sessions against mainstream conservatives. Instead of deftly batting away campus leftists, Kirk and his allies are left to struggle to respond to questioners couching racist, homophobic, or anti-Semitic messaging in Trumpism.

Turning Point has dealt with racists in the past, but usually theyre coming from inside the group. In 2017, The New Yorker reported on racist messages sent by a top Turning Point official. In May, the group banned one of its campus leaders after he appeared in a video yelling white power and using racial slurs.

A Turning Point spokesman said in a statement that the Q&A portion of Trump Jr.s speech had been canceled days before the event.

This was a Turning Point USA event and it was our organizations decision to cancel the Q&A portion days before after we were made aware of a pre-planned effort to disrupt the event, the statement reads. The event was not cut short or ended early, as in lieu of the Q&A we simply extended the amount of time given to our VIPs for their remarks.

Trump Jr. wasnt their first target. On Friday, a Turning Point event featuring Crenshaw at Arizona State University was besieged by Groypers, egged on by Charlottesville marcher and alt-right internet video personality Timothy Baked Alaska Gionet.

What do you call yourselves? The groppers? Its a very strange name. These guys are the Alt Right 2.0.

Rep. Dan Crenshaw

One Crenshaw antagonist kicked off the Q&A by asking Crenshaw, a Navy veteran, about the 1967 Israeli attack on the USS Liberty that left 34 crew members dead. Inquiries in the United States and Israel found that the attack was an accident, but it has become a popular talking point for Fuentes and his supporters.

What do you call yourselves? Crenshaw responded. The Groppers? Its a very strange name. These guys are the Alt Right 2.0.

As Crenshaw faced increasingly hostile questioning, friendly audience members tried to create a separate question line to get around Crenshaws critics. As the event ended, Gionet and his allies attempted to reach Crenshaw at the stage but were blocked by Turning Point members.

Fuentes feud with Turning Point appears to date back to at least March, when he tried to give a speech at Iowa State University on a purported invite from a Turning Point chapter there. Then, in September, Turning Point fired one of its ambassadors, MAGA personality Ashley St. Clair, after she appeared in a picture smiling with Fuentes and other far-right internet personalities. In late October, Fuentes tried to take a picture with Kirkapparently in an attempt to embarrass himbefore being stopped by security guards.

Fuentes attacks have put some pressure on Turning Point. Since the Groyper war began, two the leaders of two Turning Point chapters have dissolved their groups, citing sympathy for Fuentes or claiming that Turning Point is stifling their free speech.

Last week, Shapiro devoted much of a speech sponsored by another campus group, Young Americas Foundation, to denouncing Fuentes and his cohort. Shapiro highlighted a video in which Fuentes denied the Holocaust using an elaborate metaphor about the Sesame Street character Cookie Monster, as well as a post immediately after the Charlottesville march where Fuentes attacked a rootless transnational elite.

Shapiro also brought up Fuentes attack on Matt Walsh, a columnist at Shapiros Daily Wire, whom Fuentes called a shabbos goy race traitor for attacking white supremacists in the wake of the El Paso shooting.

But maybe he was just being ironic, bro, Shapiro said, mocking Fuentes defenders.

The fight has drawn in a host of conservative personalities on either side. Conspiracy-theory hub Infowars has been generally supportive of Fuentes, describing his targets as grifters from Conservatism, Inc. Columnist Ann Coulter has retweeted messages supporting the attacks on Kirk, while writer Michelle Malkin praised the questioners in a radio appearance and downplayed the racist and anti-Semitic nature of their group.

Its breaking out on college campuses now, Malkin said. There are many young, and very intelligent and sharp nationalists that are challenging Charlie Kirk and some other members of the open-borders lobby in the Republican Party.

Former White House adviser Sebastian Gorka has blasted Fuentes and his fans, calling Fuentes a Holocaust Denying scumbag on Twitter.

Lets show these reprehensible, disgusting anti-Semites who America really is, Gorka told Kirk on his radio show.

What We Know About Tulsi Gabbards Base – FiveThirtyEight

Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard has spent most of the 2020 presidential campaign on the periphery, attracting low levels of support. But shes also managed to develop a bit of a cult following as an outsider candidate who has sparred with the Democratic establishment and been critical of the use of American power abroad. Her unorthodox views and conflict with the party have even fueled speculation that she might run as a third-party candidate a claim Gabbard has repeatedly denied.

However, one thing is clear: Gabbard doesnt seem to be planning to drop out any time soon. In late October, she announced that she would not seek reelection to her seat in Hawaii, and while shes by no means a front-runner in the race, she has managed to qualify for the November debate and is just one poll shy from making the December debate after Quinnipiac University released a New Hampshire survey on Monday that found her at 6 percent. So heres a look at what Gabbards support looks like, and how that can help us make sense of her unusual candidacy.

For starters, despite her upstart campaign, Gabbard doesnt have a ton of supporters: Shes averaging 1 to 2 percent in national surveys and 2 to 4 percent in the early states of Iowa and New Hampshire. But shes managed to meet the higher polling thresholds for debate qualification, so her support has grown at least a little bit and whats more, a chunk of it seems to be exclusively considering backing Gabbard. Back in October FiveThirtyEight partnered with Ipsos to dig into candidate support before and after the fourth Democratic debate. Our survey found that 13 percent of Gabbards supporters said they were only considering voting for her, a larger share than all Democratic candidates other than former Vice President Joe Biden and Sen. Bernie Sanders, both of whom have more support overall.

Share of each candidates supporters who are only considering voting for that candidate, according to a FiveThirtyEight/Ipsos poll

*Only considering one candidate

From a survey of 1,761 likely Democratic primary voters who were surveyed from Oct. 15 to Oct. 16.

So what do we know about Gabbards base? For one thing, its overwhelmingly male according to The Economists polling with YouGov, her support among men is in the mid-single digits, while her support among women is practically nonexistent.

This trend is evident in other recent polls as well. Last weeks Quinnipiac poll of Iowa found Gabbard at 5 percent among men and 1 percent among women, and Quinnipiacs new survey of New Hampshire found her at 9 percent among men and 4 percent among women. A late October national poll from Suffolk University found her at 6 percent among men and 2 percent among women.

Her predominantly male support shows up in other ways, too. An analysis by the Center for Responsive Politics found that only 24 percent of Gabbards itemized contributions had come from female donors, the smallest percentage of any candidate in the race. And while she doesnt lead on the prediction markets, which tend to skew heavily young and male, as of publication, bettors do give her a slightly better chance of winning the Democratic nomination than Sen. Kamala Harris on PredictIt, though still not better than internet favorite Andrew Yang.

Gabbards supporters are also likely to fall outside of traditional Democratic circles. Her supporters, for instance, are more likely to have backed President Trump in 2016, hold conservative views or identify as Republican compared to voters backing the other candidates. An early November poll from The Economist/YouGov found that 24 percent of Democratic primary voters who voted for Trump in 2016 backed Gabbard. By comparison, 12 percent of these voters backed Sen. Elizabeth Warren, 11 percent backed Biden and 10 percent backed Mayor Pete Buttigieg. Primary voters who identified as conservative also overwhelmingly backed Gabbard in that poll (16 percent) only Biden and Harris enjoyed more support from this group (27 percent and 17 percent, respectively).

And a University of New Hampshire/CNN survey in late October found Gabbard actually ahead of Biden among Democratic primary voters in New Hampshire who identified as Republican, at 28 percent to Bidens 18 percent. To be sure, the number of conservative, Republican and/or Trump voters in these polls was not large, but considering Gabbard doesnt get that much backing to begin with 3 percent in The Economists poll and 5 percent in the University of New Hampshires these voters do make up a significant chunk of her support.

Quinnipiacs New Hampshire survey also signaled Gabbard might have success among independent voters in the Democratic primary, a group that boosted Sanders in the 2016 race. In that poll, 10 percent of registered independents backed Gabbard versus just 1 percent of registered Democrats. That could be significant for Gabbard, because independents are allowed to vote in the New Hampshire primary (registered Republicans are not). Quinnipiac didnt separate out conservatives from moderates in its ideology crosstabs, but once again less liberal voters were also more inclined to support Gabbard: 9 percent of moderate or conservative voters said they supported Gabbard as opposed to 2 percent of both somewhat liberal and very liberal voters.

In fact, Gabbard has become a bit of a conservative media darling in the primary, with conservative commentators like Ann Coulter and pro-Trump social media personalities like Mike Cernovich complimenting her for her foreign policy views. In a primary in which some 2020 Democratic contenders have boycotted Fox News, Gabbard has regularly appeared on the network. Just last week, Gabbard even did an exclusive interview with Breitbart News, a far-right political outlet. Shes also made appeals outside the political mainstream by going on The Joe Rogan Experience one of the most popular podcasts in the country and a favored outlet for members of the Intellectual Dark Web, whose purveyors dont fit neatly into political camps but generally criticize concepts such as political correctness and identity politics.

The nontraditional nature of Gabbards support, plus the criticism shes gotten from Democrats like Hillary Clinton who has gone as far as to suggest that the Republicans are grooming Gabbard, a favorite of the Russians, as a spoiler candidate has certainly helped fuel the idea that Gabbard might run as a third-party candidate. Gabbard has denied it so far, although it is hard to believe her strategy is a winning one in the Democratic primary. While loyal, her base of support just isnt that big, meaning she needs to make serious inroads with more traditional Democratic constituencies. On the one hand, her back and forth with Clinton may have given her a boost in recent weeks, so battling the party establishment could be a useful strategy. On the other hand, garnering approval from conservative media isnt likely to improve her poor favorability among Democrats or attract the support she needs to win the primary, no matter how loyal her base is.

Check out all the polls weve been collecting ahead of the 2020 elections.

CORRECTION (Nov. 14, 2019, 5:11 p.m.): A previous version of this article incorrectly described the The Economists polling data. Gabbards support by gender, as shown by The Economist, comes from YouGov polling only; it is not an average of national polls.
