Larry Kudlow: Ronald Reagan and Bill Buckley would be appalled at this socialist assault on freedom – Fox Business

FOX Business host Larry Kudlow reflects on the the consequences of the progressive agenda on 'Kudlow.'

We are here this evening at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, which itself is a great big treat for me because he was my former boss 40-something odd years ago. I've spoken here a few times in the past, but never in the Air Force One Pavilion, which is totally cool, and you should all come out and visit.

Later this evening, I am being honored at a National Review gala dinner to receive the William F. Buckley Prize for Leadership in Political Thought. For me, this is a monumental honor. My gratitude for this prize is unlimited. I knew Bill Buckley very, very well. I worked at National Review for a time and he had an enormous influence on my life and my thinking. Imagine learning conservative political thought and action from Ronald Reagan and Bill Buckley, and then later on, Donald Trump. It has been a great gift in my time.

The show this evening we will continue our conversation about the totalitarian evils of socialism and the single, urgent importance of stopping America's socialist drift and restoring freedom, free-market capitalism, free enterprise, to regain the American soul and ideal of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

PRESIDENT RONALD REAGAN: You and I have lived too long with this miracle to properly be appreciative. Freedom is a fragile thing and it's never more than one generation away from extinction. It is not ours by way of inheritance; it must be fought for and defended constantly by each generation, for it comes only once to a people and those in world history who have known freedom and then lost it have never known it again.

Of course, the Gipper was right. Freedom is a fragile thing and it's never more than one generation away from extinction. In the last two years under President Joe Biden, America has taken a sharp turn to the left. Massive inflationary federal spending to expand the size of government, accommodated by huge money-printing, big tax increases and an unbelievable increase in regulations which have become the left's biggest weapon for central planning and state control of the economy that includes the war against fossil fuels, which has decimated the greatest energy system in the world.

Along the way, the progressive agenda has undermined the dignity and incentives to work. A major expansion of the entitlement state is sending enormous government assistance without any workfare or work requirements, sofolks stayed on the dole, and the workforce in the economy has been demoralized and, of course, destroying American sovereignty with open borders, the flow of well over 2 million illegals, with crime, sex and drug trafficking and the scourge of poisonous fentanyl.

The progressives on the left don't care about American sovereignty or, for that matter, law and order, and culturally they have invaded our schools with racial and gender nonsense, rewriting American history and attempts to keep parents away from their childrens education.

Just step back for a moment. What we have here in this radical, progressive experiment is a complete failure, which of course is the whole history of socialist takeover attempts. In a little more than a year, the economy has gone from a prosperity boom with stable prices to a recessionary bust with sky-rocketing inflation. We just got a new number today confirming the first half recession with declining GDP.

Going from prosperity boom to stagflationary bust in a little more than a year is not an easy thing to do, but that is the sad tale of yet another unsuccessful attempt at government control of the economy and the socialist war against freedom.

Ronald Reagan and Bill Buckley would be appalled at this socialist assault on freedom that has resulted in America's decline. Remember Bill Buckley's admonition that sometimes we need to stand athwart history and yell, "Stop"? Similarly, Ronald Reagan would be so saddened to see the decline in his beloved City on a Hill.

Steve Hilton and Katie Pavlich reflect on the dangers of socialism on 'Kudlow.'

We're going to talk about all of this with our distinguished guests, but if you know me, you'll know how hard I intend to keep fighting against these temporary setbacks. If you know the American people, you'll know that they see right through these phony progressive promises.

Americans are a practical-minded folk. They know a rube when they see one and they know that when something doesn't work, it's time to get rid of it. Reagan believed all of that. Buckley believed all of that. Trump believed all of that, and that's why the fight against socialism is getting stronger and stronger around the country right now.Yes, indeed, I believe the cavalry is coming.

Mrs Harris Goes to Paris movie review: a sweet treat with a side order of socialism – Evening Standard

Review at a glance

Emily in Paris for geriatrics. Thats what cruel commentators may be inclined to label this Cinderella-ish tale, based on a 1958 Paul Gallico novella about a Battersea cleaning lady. Luckily, with the fantastic Lesley Manville as said charwoman, nothing is quite what it seems.

The books Ada Harris is a selfless and gutsy widow who falls in love with one of her clients Dior dresses. When she arrives in Paris, all set to buy a frock with her hard-earned cash, she impresses an open-minded Marquis, endears herself to practically every Dior employee she meets and is rewarded for her fairy godmother-ish ways with... flowers. She never gets to swan around in her gown. Its gutting!

In Mrs Arris goes to Paris, the spectacularly camp 90s TV movie, Angela Lansburys Ada has a bit more fun. She and the Marquis (Omar Sharif) scratch each others backs, albeit in a platonic way, and Ada gets to wear her beautiful dress, before returning to her dingy digs. The ballgown, dangling from a hanger in Adas London kitchen, performs a magical little jiggle. Thats the happy ending.

Isabelle Huppert stars as Claudine Colbert and Roxane Duran as Marguerite

This time around, its still the 1950s, but Ada, as well as being a talented seamstress, has a working libido (shes attracted to two men, including Lambert Wilsons Marquis de Chassagne, whos been royally screwed up by his upbringing). She also hangs out with fans of the left-wing intellectual, Jean-Paul Sartre, organises a workers strike, is defended by an out-and-proud communist and single-handedly circumvents the snobbery of Isabelle Hupperts Dior manager, Madame Colbert.

Mrs Harris Goes to Paris could never be mistaken for a Ken Loach polemic. But whilst showing us a lot of pretty frocks, it gets awfully close to giving the finger to feudalism.

Lesley Manville as Mrs. Harris with Lucas Bravo as Andr Fauvel

A note on the frocks. The majority of them (whether recreations of Dior New Look classics or originals designed by three-time Oscar-winner Jenny Beavan) are sublime. But one dresscoat resembles a tiny and poorly assembled tent. Or a giant tea cosy. Either way, its horrid. Ada, thank goodness, gravitates towards two outfits cut from a different cloth and, in the films suspenseful last third, everything works out in a way thats utterly delightful.

Years ago, when I told a friend I was naming my daughter, Ada, they were horrified and said, That sounds like the name of a cleaning lady! Heres to Manvilles Ada, a woman who knows youre never too old or too working class to be one of the happiest belles at the ball.

Blackpool Sports Centre forced to close after being trashed by vandals – Blackpool Gazette

The Council-run leisure centre in Stanley Park will remain shut whilst police investigate the break in on Sunday evening (October 2).

Officers visited the sports centre today where a crime scene investigation was launched to gather evidence and identify the culprits.

Police met with representatives from Blackpool Council who have been assessing the damage caused to the facilities. At this stage, it is not clear how much the damage will cost to repair.

Active Blackpool, which runs the sports centre on behalf of the Council, said the venue will be closed until further notice. But added that it hopes to reopen by this evening.

Posting on Facebook and Twitter, it said: Due to unforeseen circumstances, Blackpool Sports Centre is closed until further notice.

Speaking to the Gazette, a Blackpool Council spokesperson added: Unfortunately on Sunday evening Blackpool Sports Centre was broken into and vandalised.

"We are assessing the damage this morning and the police are carrying out their investigations.

"We hope to re-open by this evening.

"Please keep an eye on Active Blackpools social media pages where updates will be made.

Clifton Rangers Junior Football Club said it was outraged to learn that vandals had targeted a local sports centre.

"Devastating to hear about the damage caused last night, said a club spokesman. Its outrageous that kids destroy facilities used by so many people in the community.

Lancashire Police were approached for further details.

Explained: What Is Hera? All About ESA Spacecraft Set To Undertake ‘Crime Scene Investigation’ Of DART’s Collision With Asteroid – ABP Live

New Delhi: After NASA's Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART), the next planetary defence mission will be the European Space Agency's (ESAs) Hera mission, which is scheduled to be launched in October 2024. The Hera mission has the goals of planetary defence, technology demonstration, and performing bonus science experiments.

NASAs DART spacecraft has made history by crashing into an asteroid, marking the successful completion of the world's first planetary defence test. DART successfully collided with asteroid Dimorphos at around 4:44 am IST on Tuesday, September 27.

Dimorphos is the small asteroid satellite of Didymos, the primary asteroid of a binary asteroid system, which posed no threat to Earth. DART demonstrated a first-of-its-kind planetary defence technique by deflecting Dimorphos.

ESA's Hera spacecraft is designed to undertake a detailed survey of the consequences of DART's collision.

Ian Carnelli of ESA, who is overseeing the Hera mission, said DART and Hera were originally conceived on a coordinated double-spacecraft basis, with one mission to perform the deflection, and the other to perform precision measurements of the result, ESA mentioned on its website.

He added that the scientific consortium named Asteroid Impact and Deflection Assessment (AIDA) was maintaining the international collaboration of the two missions.

After DARTs collision with the 160-metre-diameter Dimorphos, certain parameters, such as the precise mass of Dimorphos, its internal structure, and the size and shape of the crater left by DART, remain unknown. Therefore, the Hera spacecraft will head towards the Didymos binary asteroid system in October 2024, to begin its detailed 'crime scene investigation' of Dimorphos and Didymos in late 2026, according to ESA.

A 'selfie-sat', known as the Light Italian Cubesat for Imaging of Asteroids (LICIACube), which is a part of the DART mission, observed the collision and witnessed the DART impact on Dimorphos. LICIACube will study the formation of the plume generated by the impact, and characterise its structure and evolution.

Since Hera will gather data by going near the asteroid, it will turn DART's impact experiment into a deflection technique which is well understood, and can be deployed if an asteroid, posing a real threat to Earth, advances towards the planet in future.

In 2024, ESA's Hera spacecraft will be launched by the Ariane 6 rocket.

In 2026, Hera and its two CubeSats, Milani and Juventas, will reach Didymos to begin Investigation of the aftermath of DART's impact.

Hera is also equipped with an optical camera, a laser radar lidar (detection system which works on the principle of radar, but uses laser light), and a thermal infrared scanner.

The Hera spacecraft will deploy a pair of shoebox-sized CubeSats Milani and Juventas which will perform supporting observations.

The Milani CubeSat will make spectral surface observations, while Juventas CubeSat will perform the first radar soundings within an asteroid, a technique which will serve as a means of mapping the asteroid's topography, and conditions at its base.

Milani will use its hyperspectral imager (system which analyses a wide spectrum of light) to inspect the mineral makeup of the asteroid surface.

The Otto Hydraulic Bremen in Germany is responsible for building the Hera spacecraft. GMV in Spain is overseeing the engineering model of Hera's precision guidance, navigation, and control system. This will guide the Hera spacecraft to and around the Didymos binary asteroid system.

The European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC) technical centre in the Netherlands, which is ESA's main technology development centre for spacecraft and space technology, is currently testing the radar prototype of Juventas, according to ESA.

The Juventas CubeSat will carry a compact radar, which is set to become the smallest radar system to be flown in space. But before that, ESA is testing the operation of the radar using a structural model of the CubeSat, the space agency said on its website. Juventas's low-frequency radar is called JuRa.

When ESA's Hera spacecraft will fly to the Didymos binary asteroid system, the radar aboard Juventas will perform the first ever radar soundings inside an asteroid. The technique will serve as a means of mapping the asteroid's topography and conditions at its base. The Juventus CubeSat will peer up to 100 metres deep within the 160-metre-diameter Dimorphos satellite of the 780-metre-diameter Didymos.

Jordan Peterson Breaks Down in Tears When Asked About Olivia Wilde Calling Him a Hero to the Incel Community: Sure, Why Not? – Variety

Jordan Peterson broke down in tears during an interview on Piers Morgan Uncensored (via Mediaite) when asked about Olivia Wilde referring to him as a hero to the incel community. Wilde was on her Dont Worry Darling press tour when she revealed to Interview Magazine that Chris Pines villainous character in the film, Frank, is based on Peterson. Wilde called Peterson this pseudo-intellectual hero to the incel community.

Sure. Why not? Peterson said when Piers Morgan asked if Wildes assessment of him was true. You know, people have been after me for a long time because Ive been speaking to disaffected young men.

Peterson then broke down into tears and said, Its very difficult to understand how demoralized people are, and certainly many young men are in that category. You get these casual insults, these incels what do they mean? These men, they dont know how to make themselves attractive to women who are very picky, and good for them. Women, like, be picky. Thats your gift, man. Demand high standards from your men. Fair enough. But all these men who are alienated, its like theyre lonesome and they dont know what to do and everyone piles abuse on them.

After calling Peterson a hero to incel community, Wilde described incels as disenfranchised, mostly white men, who believe they are entitled to sex from women. And they believe that society has now robbed them that the idea of feminism is working against nature, and that we must be put back into the correct place.

This guy Jordan Peterson is someone that legitimizes certain aspects of their movement because hes a former professor, hes an author, he wears a suit, so they feel like this is a real philosophy that should be taken seriously, Wilde added.

Peterson told Morgan that he wasnt too offended by Wildes comment (it was a low-level insult, he said). Instead, the diss convinced Peterson to check out the Dont Worry Darling trailer.

I thought, Id go see that movie. and perhaps I will, Peterson said. It didnt really bother me [Chris Pine] is a very good looking man I hope he gets my fashion style choice right.

When asked about why he got emotional discussing Wildes comment, Peterson again fought back tears and said, Its really something to see constantly how many people are dying for lack of an encouraging word and how easy it is to provide that if youre careful.

Dont Worry Darling is now playing in theaters nationwide. Watch Peterson and Morgans full discussion below.
