Twitter, Reddit and 8 other companies offering permanent remote or hybrid workand hiring right now – CNBC

Working from home continues to be the popular choice among employees, even as companies are trying to woo people back to the office.

Recent research from Microsoft, which surveyed 31,102 workers around the world between January and February, found that 52% of people are thinking of switching to a full-time remote or hybrid job this year, just as more businesses announce return-to-office requirements.

To help people find the best remote and hybrid opportunities, FlexJobs identified 25 companies that switched to a permanent flexible work model.

These companies have adopted either remote-first or trust-based approaches that see employees working from home full-time or choosing when, and how, they join their team in the office.

Sales, marketing and project management are among the top industries hiring for hybrid jobs in 2022. Here are 10 companies that switched to a permanent flexible work model and are hiring now, according to FlexJobs (see the full list here):

Industry: Manufacturing

Remote work plans: In October 3M announced a trust-based approach called "Work Your Way" that allows employees to choose whether remote work, being in the office or a mix of the two works best for them.

Recent remote job openings: Software engineer, Technical writer

Industry: Technology, software

Remote work plans: The software maker said last year that employees are free to "work from home forever," but is keeping its offices open in San Francisco, Amsterdam, India, Japan, the Philippines and Turkey for employees to visit at their discretion.

Recent remote job openings: Data scientist, Product marketing manager

Industry: Cryptocurrency

Remote work plans: Coinbase switched to a "remote-first" structure in May 2020 where 95% of employees can choose to work from home, an office or on a hybrid schedule, excluding roles that require in-person functions or meetings.

Recent remote job openings: Marketing insights researcher, Technical partner manager - NFTs

Industry: Transportation

Remote work plans: Lyft has adopted a "fully flexible" workspace allowing "almost all" employees the choice of where to live and work, according to a company blog post from last month. Some jobs, such as service mechanics, however, still require in-person work.

Recent remote job openings: Claims advocate, Customer service specialist, safety and compliance

Industry: Technology, software

Remote work plans: SAP's "Pledge to Flex" model, which the company launched in June, lets employees choose between working remotely, in the office or a combination of both.

Recent remote job openings: Midmarket sales executive, Senior third party risk manager

Industry: Social media

Remote work plans: Reddit switched to a permanent hybrid model in October 2020 where employees have the flexibility to work wherever they want, with options for in-office work.

Recent remote job openings: Privacy engineer; Program manager, moderator events

Industry:Music, streaming

Remote work plans: Spotify's "Work From Anywhere" program, which launched in February 2021, offers remote, in-person and hybrid options for employees as well as more flexible living choices if an employee wants to move. For example: Spotify has offered to pay for a co-working membership if someone re-locates to a neighborhood that isn't near a Spotify office and misses in-person work.

Recent remote job openings: Senior UX writer, Enterprise platform success partner

Industry: Social media

Remote work plans: Twitter re-opened its offices in March but is continuing to let employees decide where and how they work, including being remote full-time, CEO Paraj Agrawal said last month.

Recent remote job openings: Staff quantitative user research, Staff network security engineer

Industry: Marketing, design

Remote work plans: In August 2020 Vista moved to permanent remote working, converting office locations into "collaboration centers" where employees can book desks and meet to work in person with others when needed.

How Tech Companies Are Trying to Woo Employees Returning to Work – The New York Times

When Google employees returned to their mostly empty offices this month, they were told to relax. Office time should be not only productive but also fun. Explore the place a little. Dont book back-to-back meetings.

Also, dont forget to attend the private show by Lizzo, one of the hottest pop stars in the country. If thats not enough, the company is also planning pop-up events that will feature every Googlers favorite duo: food and swag.

But Google employees in Boulder, Colo., were still reminded of what they were giving up when the company gave them mouse pads with the image of a sad-eyed cat. Underneath the pet was a plea: Youre not going to RTO, right?

R.T.O., for return to office, is an abbreviation born of the pandemic. It is a recognition of how Covid-19 forced many companies to abandon office buildings and empty cubicles. The pandemic proved that being in the office does not necessarily equal greater productivity, and some firms continued to thrive without meeting in person.

Now, after two years of video meetings and Slack chats, many companies are eager to get employees back to their desks. The employees, however, may be not be so eager for a return to morning commutes, communal bathrooms and daytime outfits that are not athletic wear.

So tech companies with money to burn and offices to fill are rolling out the fun wagon, even as they make clear that in many cases returning to the office at least a few days a week is mandatory.

Lizzo will perform for Google employees this month at an amphitheater near the companys headquarters in Mountain View, Calif. When Microsoft reopened its offices in Redmond, Wash., in late February, employees were treated to music from local bands, beer and wine tasting, and even classes for making terrariums.

To mark its first official week back at the office, the chip maker Qualcomm held a happy hour with its chief executive, Cristiano Amon, at its San Diego offices for several thousand employees with free food, drink and T-shirts. The company also started offering weekly events such as pop-up snack stands on Take a Break Tuesday and group fitness classes for Wellness Wednesday.

These celebrations and perks are a recognition by companies that they know employees dont want to come back to the office, certainly not as frequently as before, said Adam Galinsky, a professor at Columbia Universitys business school. At least for now, he added, companies are opting for the carrot over the stick: rewarding workers for coming into the office rather than punishing them for staying home.

Before Covid struck, the biggest technology firms committed billions of dollars to erect offices that are marvels of architecture and trophies of financial success. Those gleaming offices, packed with amenities and perks, are a testament to the long-held belief that in-person collaboration is still better for fostering creativity, inspiring innovation and instilling a common sense of purpose.

But for many employees who enjoyed the freedom of working remotely, the return to office no matter how fancy carries a touch of end-of-summer, back-to-school dread. Few, it seems, are keen on going back five days a week.

On Memegen, an internal company site where Google employees share memes, one of the most popular posts was a picture of a company cafeteria with a caption: RTO is just bumping into each other and saying we must grab lunch soon until one of you quits Google.

Nick Bloom, an economics professor at Stanford University who surveys 5,000 workers every month, said most wanted to return to the office two or three times per week. One-third never want to return to the office and prefer to remain remote.

Just by eliminating the office commute, Mr. Bloom said, the average worker will save one hour a day, so you can see why employees are not going to start coming to work for free bagels or to play Ping-Pong. The main draw for heading to the office, according to the surveys, is that employees want to see colleagues in person.

After a number of postponements, Google kicked off its hybrid work schedule on April 4, requiring most employees to show up at U.S. offices a few days a week. Apple started easing staff back to the office on Monday, with workers expected to check in at the office once a week at first.

On March 31, David Radcliffe, Googles vice president of real estate and workplace services, sent an email to San Francisco Bay Area employees saying the company wanted to make the return to office truly special.

For years, Google has provided employees with Wi-Fi-equipped luxury buses to make commutes more productive and comfortable, but its going a step further. It is starting a program to reimburse $49 monthly leases for an electric scooter as part of its transportation options for staff. Google also plans to also start experimenting with different office designs to adapt to changing work styles.

When Microsoft employees returned to their offices in February as part of a hybrid work schedule, they were greeted with appreciation events and lawn games such as cornhole and life-size chess. There were classes for spring basket making and canvas painting. The campus pub transformed into a beer, wine and mocktail garden.

And, of course, there was free food and drink: pizzas, sandwiches and specialty coffees. Microsoft paid for food trucks with offerings including fried chicken, tacos, gyros, Korean food and barbecue.

Unlike other technology companies, Microsoft expects employees to pay for their own food at the office. One employee marveled at how big a draw the free food was.

The challenge for companies, Mr. Bloom said, is how to balance flexibility in letting workers set their own schedule with a more heavy-handed approach of forcing them to come in on specific days to maximize the usefulness of office time.

He said companies should focus on developing the right approach to hybrid work instead of wasting time and effort on showering employees with inducements like private concerts.

Employees arent going to come in regularly just for the frills, Mr. Bloom said. What are you going to do next? Get Justin Bieber and then Katy Perry?

Fitting of Apples more restrained workplace, its employees said they did not expect nor had they heard of any celebrations for returning to the office. At first, Apple is asking employees to come once a week. By late May, Apple is requiring them to come in on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.

When Apple announced its return-to-office plan last year before another Covid surge forced a delay, more than 1,000 employees signed a letter urging management to be more open to flexible work arrangements. It was a rare show of dissent from the companys rank-and-file, who historically have been less willing to openly challenge executives on workplace matters.

But as tech companies grapple with offering employees greater work flexibility, the firms are also scaling back some office perks.

Meta, formerly known as Facebook, told employees last month that it was cutting back or eliminating free services like laundry and dry cleaning. Google, like some other companies, has said it approved requests from thousands of employees to work remotely or transfer to a different office. But if employees move to a less expensive location, Google is cutting pay, arguing that it has always factored in where a person was hired in setting compensation.

Clio, a legal software company in Burnaby, British Columbia, wont force its employees back to the office. But last week, it gave a party at its offices.

There was upbeat music. There was an asymmetrical balloon sculpture in Clios signature bright blue, dark blue, coral and white perfect for selfies. One of Clios best-known workers donned a safari costume to give tours of the facility. At 2 p.m., the company held a cupcake social.

To make its work spaces feel more like home, the company moved desks to the perimeter, allowing Clions what the company calls its employees to gaze out at the office complexs cherry blossoms while banging out emails. A foosball table was upgraded to a workstation with chairs on either end, so you could have a meeting while playing foosball with your laptop on it, said Natalie Archibald, Clios vice president of people.

Clios Burnaby office, which employs 350, is open at only half capacity. Spaced-out desks must be reserved, and employees got red, yellow and green lanyards to convey their comfort levels with handshakes.

Only around 60 people came in that Monday. To be able to have an IRL laugh rather than an emoji response, Ms. Archibald said. People are just excited for that.

Karen Weise contributed reporting.

Sharpton convention keynote speaker praised Farrakhan, called to make gays ‘uncomfortable’ in their ‘sin’ – Fox News

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

The keynote speaker for a ticketed "invite-only" event at the national convention hosted by Al Sharpton's organization has repeatedly praised antisemite Louis Farrakhan and told a congregation it is their "responsibility" to make gay people "uncomfortable in [their] sin."

New Birth Missionary Baptist Church senior pastor Jamal H. Bryant is scheduled to deliver the keynote address on Friday for a luncheon at MSNBC anchor Al Sharpton's annual National Action Network (NAN) convention, according to the schedule.

Bryant, who has met with Sharpton multiple times and attended other NAN events, told the congregation at the Baltimore Empowerment Temple in 2012 that "homosexuality is not the only sin, but it is a sin" while adding that it is their "responsibility" to make gay people and other sinners "uncomfortable in [their] sin."

WHO IS LOUIS FARRAKHAN? WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT THE CONTROVERSIAL NATION OF ISLAM LEADER

Rev. Al Sharpton and Minister Louis Farrakhan (R. Diamond/WireImage)

He went on to attack former President Obama for supporting gay marriage, telling the congregation he was "Black and wrong" and "Black and out of order."

Bryant also has a long history of praising Farrakhan, who has espoused antisemitic rhetoric dating back decades, including calling Jews "wicked" and comparing them to termites by saying he was "anti-termite." In 2015, Bryant interviewed the Nation of Islam leader and said he is "one of the greatest leaders of our people."

"We welcome to the Word Network and the entire world, the honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan! Were honored to have you sir," Bryant said. "Im so appreciative to be able to mark in history that I lived in the same chasm of time as one of the greatest leaders of our people."

Additionally, in 2015, Bryant tweeted out a teaser of the interview on the day it aired and tweeted pictures of himself with Farrakhan from a meeting with him about the 20th anniversary of the Million Man March.

Bryant also called for "the Black church to have a real conversation about homosexuality" in a 2012 tweet, writing "what's in society is in our sanctuary," and in 2016 shared an article about "why he doesnt care" about how a "gay group" wanted him "cut from an MLK event for calling homosexuality a sin."

In a tweet from 2019, Bryant said that he was "humbled" to be in Farrakhans presence. His Twitter page has dozens of other tweets related to Farrakhan also.

Bryant isn't the only speaker at the NAN conference who has vocally supported Farrakhan or attended an event with him. Sharpton has associated with him for decades and has been in several pictures with him.

Dr. Fredrick D. Haynes III, the senior pastor at Friendship-West Baptist Church and a board member of NAN, tweeted a photo of himself and Farrakhan in 2017, calling him a "wonderful and great man." In 2015, Haynes also lavished praise on Farrakhan, saying he was "a prophetic leader of our time."

Wes Bellamy, the former vice-mayor of Charlottesville and national public policy chairman for 100 Black Men of America, is scheduled to be a panelist on Saturday and has tweeted his support for Farrakhan also. In a 2015 tweet, Bellamy said Farrakhan "spoke to my soul today" and said it made him feel like "moving mountains." In 2012, Bellamy tweeted that it was an "honor" to be in the presence of Farrakhan, calling him a "wise man."

He also tweeted, "HELL YEA" in response to a tweet asking whether someone would go see Farrakhan speak if they had the opportunity to do so. Bellamy also has a history of homophobic and sexist tweets.

Attorney Ben Crump also tweeted out pictures of him meeting Farrakhan in 2015, saying it was a "pleasure to meet" the Nation of Islam leader.

Additionally, Dr. Michael Eric Dyson, a Vanderbilt University divinity professor who called Farrakhan "one of the greatest thinkers" in American culture, spoke at the conference on Thursday.

Dyson said in 2020 he disagrees with Farrakhan's stance on the LGBT and Jewish communities, but said he had an hours-long conversation with the Nation of Islam leader at Farrakhan's home.

"But if you talk to him one-on-one, look, Minister Farrakhan invited me to his home and I spoke to him for three hours, one-on-one," Dyson said. "So I don't want nobody out there listening trying to go off on me, because I had a one-to-one meeting with him. He invited me to his home."

"And for three hours, we broke bread and talked about a great range of subjects, some of which we agree on and some of which we didn't agree on," the professor continued. "And he said, My brother, can one be corrected by ones brother if there is no conversation. Amen.'"

Dyson continued on to say that "at that level, we've got to have open dialogue with whoever in order to share our disagreements, our agreements, our appreciation."

Neither NAN nor the New Birth Missionary Baptist Church immediately responded to Fox News Digital's request for comment.

We’ve made it. All of us: Jackson is honored at White House ceremony – SCOTUSblog

A VIEW FROM THE SOUTH LAWN ByMark Walsh on Apr 8, 2022 at 5:43 pm

Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson speaks at a White House ceremony on Friday to celebrate her confirmation to the Supreme Court. (Mark Walsh)

One day after the Senate confirmed her nomination to the Supreme Court, Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson delivered a powerful message of gratitude and acknowledgement extending generations during an event on the White House South Lawn on Friday.

It has taken 232 years and 115 prior appointments for a Black woman to be selected to serve on the Supreme Court of the United States, Jackson said before President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, Cabinet members, lawmakers, civil rights advocates, her family, and others. But weve made it. Weve made it. All of us.

Her use of the plural we sparked an extra burst of applause from a crowd that included such African American women as Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Marcia Fudge; Reps. Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Texas, and Frederica Wilson, D-Fla.; Linda Thomas-Greenfield, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations; and Kristen Clarke, the assistant U.S. attorney general for civil rights.

Also present were Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee. There were eight other senators and about 20 other House members.

Doug Jones, the former senator from Alabama who guided Jacksons nomination through the Senate and whom Jackson called an absolute godsend, frequently removed his Biden-style aviator glasses to snap pictures with his phone.

The Rev. Jesse Jackson was joined by the Rev. Al Sharpton and civil rights attorney Ben Crump, along with NAACP President and CEO Derrick Johnson and National Urban League President and CEO Marc Morial.

The crowd was festive on a mostly sunny, 60-degree day after three days of rain in the nations capital. Before the ceremony began, there was some speculation about just what was going to take place, and a few attendees could be heard asking who would administer the oath to Jackson.

But there would be no oath on Friday. That will come later, as Justice Stephen Breyer has said he will retire when the court begins its summer recess in late June or early July.

Supreme Court justices were invited to Fridays event, but none showed up. It seems likely that, without the cloak of being an official swearing-in ceremony, the event had too much of a political cast for the courts tastes.

The entire court has sometimes appeared at the White House for the swearing-in of a new colleague. The justices, for instance, attended oath-taking ceremonies when Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh were appointed. But Kavanaughs 2018 ceremony was marked by some sharp political barbs from President Donald Trump.

When Amy Coney Barrett was confirmed in 2020, a number of factors gave most of the justices some cover in skipping a South Lawn ceremony. The event was just days before the presidential election, COVID-19 was a major concern, and it was being held at night just hours after the Senate had confirmed Barrett. Still, Justice Clarence Thomas participated by administering one of Barretts two required oaths.

In any event, Jackson is now in the unusual position of being what some have dubbed a justice in waiting. Marcia Coyle wrote in February in The National Law Journal that no new justice has taken the oaths of office before the member of the court being replaced has left service. But a few have been sworn in the same day as the outgoing justice retired, including Breyer on Aug. 3, 1994 (replacing Harry Blackmun), and Justice Samuel Alito on Jan. 31, 2006 (replacing Sandra Day OConnor, who had extended her service beyond her initial retirement target after Chief Justice William Rehnquists death created another vacancy.)

When Jackson arrived with the president and vice president, it was Harris who took the lead.

The road toward ourmore perfect union is not alwaysstraight and it is not always smooth, Harris said. But sometimes it leads to a daylike today. A day that reminds us what ispossible, what is possible when progressis made. And that the journey, well, itwill always be worth it.

Biden said, This is going to let so much sun shine on so many young women, so many young Black women, so many minorities.

The president risked spoiling a bit of the positive vibe permeating the event by referencing the verbal abuse he said Jackson faced from Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee.

The anger, the constant interruptions, the most vile, baseless assertions and accusations. In the face of it all, Judge Jackson showed the incredible character and integrity she possesses. Poise. Poise and composure. Patience and restraint. And yes, perseverance, and even joy, Biden said.

Jackson kept her message gracious.

Our children are telling me that they see now more than ever that here in America anything is possible, Jackson said. They also tell me that I am a role model, which I take both as an opportunity and as a huge responsibility.

I am feeling up to the task, primarily because I know that I am not alone, she added. I am standing on the shoulders of my own role models, generations of Americans who never had anything close to this kind of opportunity, but who got up every day and went to work believing in the promise of America. Showing others through their determination and, yes, their perseverance, that good, good things can be done in this great country.

She quoted the late poet Maya Angelou: I do so now while bringing the gifts my ancestors gave. I am the dream and the hope of the slave.
