Harlem Native Cicely Tyson To Have Public Viewing At Famed Church – Patch.com

HARLEM, NY Residents of Harlem will get a chance to say a final goodbye to Cicely Tyson at a public viewing for the legendary actor in her native neighborhood next week.

A public viewing for Tyson, who died last week at 96, will be held Monday, Feb. 15 at Abyssinian Baptist Church, her family announced.

Guests will be required to comply with COVID-19 protocols by wearing masks and maintaining social distancing at the viewing, which will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. No photographs will be allowed.

Tyson, the daughter of immigrants from Nevis, was born in East Harlem in 1924.

After her parents separated, nine-year-old Tyson sold shopping bags on the neighborhood's streets for extra cash, ABC7 reported.

Even long after she'd left the neighborhood, the Rev. Al Sharpton told CBS that Tyson "would not let you talk about Harlem in a negative."

"She did not leave Harlem to go mainstream. She made mainstream come and celebrate Harlem and her grace and her presence spoke for itself," he said.

Tyson began her career as a model, became a stage actress and entered the mainstream in 1972 when she was nominated for an Academy Award for her performance in the film "Sounder."

In the 1990s, a nonprofit housing developer redeveloped four East Harlem buildings to house 58 low-income families including the East 101st Street walkup where Tyson grew up, 6sqft reported.

Tyson attended the building's dedication, telling attendees, "To have some place memorialized in that manner means more to me than I can verbalize."

Information from the Associated Press was used in this report.

Nissan operating profit rose in latest quarter on better cost control, lower incentives – Automotive News Europe

TOKYO -- Embattled Nissan reported a 19 percent increase in operating profit in the latest quarter as cost control, better pricing power and lower incentives bolstered results.

Operating profit rose to 27.1 billion yen ($262.5 million) in the automaker's fiscal third quarter ended Dec. 31, the company said on Tuesday in its financial results announcement.

But Nissan's quarterly net loss expanded to 37.8 billion yen ($366.1 million), from 26.1 billion yen ($252.8 million) the year before. Revenue fell 11 percent to 2.22 trillion yen ($21.50 billion) in the October-December period, as global sales declined 9.6 percent to 1.08 million vehicles.

In the just-finished fiscal third quarter, North American sales fell 20 percent to 323,000 units. Regional operating profit retreated 33 percent to 14.5 billion yen ($140.4 million) in the period.

Sales in Europe decreased 16 percent to 109,000 vehicles, while the regional business there rebounded to a narrow operating profit of 3.1 billion yen ($30.0 million) from a year-earlier loss.

Citing continued uncertainty about the COVID-19 pandemic and the impact of the global semiconductor shortage, Nissan trimmed its global sales forecast for the current fiscal year ending March 31. It now expects volume to total 4.02 million vehicles, down from its earlier forecast of 4.17 million. The new target represents a 19 percent drop from the previous fiscal year.

COO Ashwani Gupta predicted the semiconductor bottleneck would clear up by May or June.

Despite cutting the sales outlook by 150,000 units, Nissan upgraded its full-year profit outlook.

It now expects an operating loss of 205.0 billion yen ($1.99 billion) in the year to March 31, as opposed to a negative 340.0 billion yen ($3.29 billion) forecast in November. Despite the upgrade, the new target still represents a record operating loss for the company.

Still, CEO Makoto Uchida said improved cost control and a better mix of retail volume and value pricing is gradually lifting profitability. In the first nine months of the current fiscal year, for example, Nissan said revenue per unit is up 1.7 percent, the rental mix is down 6 points, inventory is down 25 percent and fixed costs are 12 percent lower.

A stream of new product, such as the redesigned Rogue crossover in the U.S. and the next-generation Note e-Power in Japan, are boosting Nissan's brand and pricing power.

Uchida and Gupta are spearheading a recovery plan called Nissan Next that chops global production capacity, slashes 300 billion yen ($2.91 billion) in fixed costs and focuses on new product. But the COVID-19 pandemic is complicating the recovery.

Regarding media reports that American tech giant Apple is canvassing global automakers for a partner to make its upcoming car, Uchida dodged a straight answer when asked whether Nissan had been approached. But he said Nissan is open to collaborating with new industry entrants.

"We need to work with the companies who are knowledgeable with good experience, through partnership and collaboration. So, this is an option that we may take," Uchida said.

"So, when new companies emerge in the auto industry, that's a possibility too."

Cyberpunk 2077, The Witcher Games Developer CD Projekt Red Hacked, Refuses to Pay Ransom – Variety

Polish games developer CD Projekt Red, the outfit behind Cyberpunk 2077, starring Keanu Reeves, and The Witcher series, has been hacked.

In a statement released on social media on Tuesday, the company said it had been targeted in a cyber attack by an unidentified actor that compromised some of its internal systems.

We are still investigating the incident, however at this time, we can confirm that to our best knowledge the compromised systems did not contain any personal data of our players or users of our services.

We will not give in to the demands nor negotiate with the actor, being aware that this may eventually lead to the release of the compromised data, CD Projekt Red said.

The company also released the ransom note, which said: We have dumped FULL copies of the source code from your Perforce server for Cyberpunk 2077, Witcher 3, Gwent, and the unreleased version of Witcher 3!!

The ransom note threatens that if an agreement isnt reached, the source codes will be leaked or sold online and CD Projekt Reds documents will be sent to their contacts in gaming journalism, giving an ultimatum of 48 hours.

The company is in touch with law enforcement authorities and the Personal Data Protection Office.

CD Projekt Red was in the news late last year when their release of Cyberpunk 2077 went awry. The much anticipated games release was delayed. When it was finally released, users complained of glitches until Sony pulled the game from its online store until further notice and agreed to provide customers full refunds.

Mike Pence, wife Karen reportedly homeless, couch-surfing …

Word has it the former Second Family is staying at the Indiana governors cabin or crashing with kinfolk back in their home state.

Former Vice President Mike Pence and his wife, Karen, are reportedly looking for a new home after their free, taxpayer-funded housing officially ended just over a week ago.

The story was originally shared by Business Insider but reposted to other outlets: Pence is reportedly staying at a cabin that Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb uses as a retreat, while two other Indiana Republican insiders say that the former second-in-command and ex-Second Lady are staying with family.

Pence served as governor of Indiana from 2013 to 2017, when he departed the Governors Residence for Number One Observatory Circle, the official residence of the Second Family. According to all accounts, the Pences havent owned their own home in over eight years.

Money shouldnt be a major issue for the former VP, who earned more than $235,000 annually during his four years in office. Pence will also have Secret Service protection for up to six months after leaving office and is entitled to a pension.

Some have speculated that the Pences are moving around frequently to avoid death threats or assassination attempts from supporters of his former boss, embattled ex-President Donald Trump, who just weeks ago chanted Hang Mike Pence as they stormed the U.S. Capitol Building.

The Trump-incited mob that stormed the Capitol earlier this month shouted that they wanted to hang Pence, and some of the people came within about 100 feet of confronting him and his family as they were hurried to a secure location in the Capitol, notes the Business Insider report.

Mike Pence, Target of Capitol Riot Rage, Remains a …

Former Vice President Mike Pence remains a frontrunner for the GOP's 2024 presidential nomination and the top pick among Republicans if Donald Trump does not run again.

Polling continues to name Trump as the favorite among Republican voters should he decide to take another shot at the White House.

An Echelon Insights poll on January 20 to 26 asked 1,006 registered voters for their views on issues such as the election and impeachment.

Republican and Republican-leaning voters were also asked who they would back as the party's presidential candidate in 2024.

About a third, 34 percent, said they would definitely support Trump if he were to run.

They were also presented with a list of candidates excluding Trump. Given this list, 21 percent said they would back Pence. Behind him was the former president's oldest child, Donald Trump Jr., who was supported by 10 percent.

Previous polls have also identified Pence as the frontrunner among the alternatives to Trump. It has been suggested that the former president's blessing could boost Pence's White House chances.

This support for the former vice president comes after Pence was a target of anger for some of the rioters who stormed the U.S. Capitol on January 6.

Videos of the violence captured members of the mob chanting: "Hang Mike Pence."

The phrase became a hashtag on Twitter in the aftermath of the Capitol riots, although the social media platform blocked it from becoming a trending topic. An FBI witness has also said that some of the rioters wanted to assassinate the then vice president.

Pence had rejected callsincluding demands from Trumpto refuse the Electoral College votes from certain states. He said he would not unilaterally reject votes.

This sparked ire from the president and his supporters, with Trump attacking Pence in a tweet even as the chaos of January 6 unfolded.

Pence, along with other officials and lawmakers, had to be rushed to safety after protesters breached the Capitol.

It was reported at the time that Pence was angry with Trump over the situation, which has since led to Trump's second impeachment.

The pair met on the Monday following the riots, both condemning the violence. They are said to have also reflected on their accomplishments in office.

The former VP had been urged to use the 25th Amendment to oust Trump from power prematurely following the riots, but refused to do so.

Pence thanked Trump in a farewell speech on January 20, saying: "I will always be grateful for the opportunity that they gave us to serve and the way they allowed us to make a difference in the life of this nation."

Newsweek could not reach Pence for comment.
