During a 9-1-1 call placed late Saturday the victim reported she was assaulted after discovering 53-year old Michael Lindsey hiding in a closet of her home. The womans 12-year old daughter was also present.

Deputies arrived at the scene and insured the safety of the victims who had locked themselves inside a room because they werent sure if the intruder was still inside the home, Early County Investigator Captain Will Caudill said.

Officers also discovered 53-year old Michael Lindsey outside the home. He was taken to a Blakely hospital and pronounced dead. Hes believed to have stumbled from inside before collapsing. Prior to the shooting she fought off her attacker with a spoon, a police report states.

Caudill said Lindsey molested a child in 1999 and is listed on the Georgia Sex Offender Registry.

Caudill said his car was found parked behind a motel located a short distance from the home. He isnt sure if he had broken into the home before the victim arrived home or afterwards.

Records indicate the victims home had recently been burglarized twice. Caudill isnt sure if those incidents are related to the home invasion.

No charges were filed against the woman who fatally shot Lindsey, and Caudill predicts if no new evidence is discovered none will be.

We plan to present our findings to the district attorneys office, a standard practice on these type cases, and they can decide what action, if any, should be taken.

An Early County grand jury could consider evidence.

Colin Flaherty: Don’t Open Your Door for the Fellas, Seniors …

Colin discusses and reviews news coverage of attacks on seniors by the fellas. The fellas come up with a pretense to have homeowner open the door of their home, then proceed to barge in and viciously beat the snoot out of them and rob them.[most recent link i could find and article below]By WWAY News - January 31, 2018 3:34 PMMYRTLE BEACH, N.C. (WFMY) Rest easy tonight.

Those are the words Randolph County Sheriff Robert Graves gave his community after Jeremy Hayes and his girlfriend Kennedy Boggs were taken into custody in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, on Tuesday night.

Hayes is wanted in connection with several robberies and assaults, including assaults on two North Carolina elderly couples.

During a press conference Tuesday night, Graves said Myrtle Beach authorities were in contact with Randolph County investigators on Sunday regarding armed robberies in their area. Hayes and Boggs were suspects.

Graves said the couple were arrested after a police chase that ended in a crash in Myrtle Beach. They are working on the extradition process to get the couple back in North Carolina.

Investigators said Hayes had 15 outstanding warrants for his arrest in North Carolina and Boggs had three outstanding warrants.

The first attack happened last week at a home on Ingram Drive in Asheboro. An elderly couple was attacked in their home after opening their door to a man claiming to be with the water department.

Hayes is believed to have attacked the couple who are both in their 80s. Emergency crews treated the couple for various injuries. Investigators believe Hayes girlfriend, Kennedy Boggs, is related to the victims.

Sunday, Graves confirmed they believed Hayes attacked again. This time it was a person working at a rest stop in Seagrove. The 21-year-old victim was robbed and beaten so badly that he needed 35 stitches and 42 staples.

Deputies say they think he committed another assault and robbery Saturday night of an elderly couple on the 5000 block of Old Randleman Road in Guilford County.

WFMY News 2 spoke with the victims grandson, Bobby McInnis.

McInnis said Hayes came to his grandparents door saying he had run out of gas. When they opened the door to help Hayes, he burst in and started whipping the couple with his pistol.

Im just grappling with how someone could do this, said McInnis. Im thanking God that they made it through this.

McInnis said his grandparents received multiple stitches and staples for their injuries. His grandfathers nose is broken and both of the victims are badly bruised.

In September, Jeremy Hayes was arrested for robbing an elderly man. Court documents show the case was dismissed when prosecutors were unable to locate the victim to testify and Hayes went free. [END]

The Irony Behind Tim Wise and White Priviledge Soul Latte

Last week, renowned anti-racist advocate, Tim Wise, came to UMass for a screening of his new documentary, White Like Me, followed by a question and answer period with the audience. I wont go into details about the actual documentary, yall can check that on your own time, but during the post-screening period, Wise was confronted about some online beef that occurred after a post on his blog in remembrance of the 50th anniversary of the Birmingham 16th Street Church bombing that killed 4 African-American girls on September 16th, 1963. His post not only acknowledges the tragedy, but also pays tribute to a man named Charles Morgan, Jr, a white southerner who lived in Birmingham at the time, but who opposed the bombings and was ultimately chased out of the South because of his willingness to speak out against racism.

Following the post, a stream of opposition came. In general, they criticized Wises emphasis on the need for white allies. After all, they said, if it wasnt for white people making the lives so hard for Black-Americans to begin with, they wouldnt need white partnership in the first place. Wise retaliated to the responses through his Facebook page, the status update wasnt so friendly.

Wise admitted to the audience at UMass that he was wrong for how he reacted, saying that he is only human, and he cant be perfect all the time. Once the applause ended after the apology, a man of color rose and told his own story of dealing with anger. He was a professor at Hampshire College, from the Bronx, and he explained how living in western Massachusetts is never easy for men of color. He told Wise of the discrimination he deals with on a regular basis. Despite being a college professor, it was the color of his skin that was seen first, and it would always put him in a disadvantage. Any man of color knows, he said, that we dont get the luxury of being only human, because being of color, any outburst could be your lastyou dont need to read a James Baldwin novel to come to that realization.

Tim Wise, a renowned expert on white privilege, could recognize he was a product of white privilege, but he could never fully understand how it manifested itself in his own life. If I he could, then he would never have been so openly accepting of the fact that he can have angry outbursts over issues as sensitive as the Birmingham bombing, and so easily get applause over it.

It was a year ago on my college campus when I had first met Tim Wise. I had no idea how famous Tim was, I had never heard of him before. As I sat down to hear him speak to a packed auditorium, I was impressed and unimpressed all in one. I remember being amused by his delivery, you cannot deny he wouldnt fair too badly as a stand up comedian. He has a way of fusing irony and raw facts through stating just the obvious reality. That is always refreshing to hear from someone who isnt of color. But then that becomes the real issue: Tim Wise isnt a person of color. What he was saying wasnt anything new or profound, but it was the fact that he was white which was why people gave him so much praise. So to put it ironically: In the same way Tim Wise goes around raising awareness on white privilege, he also benefits from itheis white privilege.

At the end of the lecture, a friend who helped organized the event asked if I would go with him to take Tim to the airport. I couldnt turn down an opportunity to get some one one one with Tim Wise after hearing everything he just said. We covered a lot of ground in that 40-minute car ride. He told me about where he grew up, what he studied in college, why he does the work he does, he even told me how he met his wife. We talked about my own studies, intellectual curiosities, and some of the research I was currently working on. It was an inspirational car ride, one that influenced the direction of a lot of the research I did that semester, along with many of the things I write on this blog.

And then he did admit what I had been thinking all along: that his whiteness was the reason for his success. He knew why he was getting called to speak all over the country. He knew why he was able to get through to white people. He was aware of his whiteness, and how that created so many privileges that automatically put him ahead of blacks who were saying much of the very same things he was, and who were also working in the field of anti-racism. And for me, my criticism of Wise doesnt come from the fact that he is a white guy discussing racism. Its how he utilizes his whiteness. He continually makes mention of how he is a white ally for Black America, and then goes on to expect us to give him a gold star. As stated in the blog GroupThink:

Its great that that guy stood up for what was right, but to try to piggy back on a very significant and painful part of AA history to sing the praises of a white guy who did the right things is missing the point. Its great he did that. Its awesome, but he doesnt get a cookie. Why is it so hard for people to understand that you dont get applause for being a decent person?

I dont have issues with Tim Wise wanting to stand up against racism, its quite commendable when anyonewhite or blackstands up for racial justice. My issues are with the fact of how righteously he goes about parading his whiteness when speaking about these issues, and then expects us to view him as some kind of white knight.

I dont care if he goes around speaking to large audiences, its the fact that he has become more than just a spokesperson on white privilege and that he feels he can also become a spokesperson for Black America, as well. I dont have any inner-conflicts being upset when people ask Tim Wise to speak on national television over issues of race when there is a sea of well qualified black scholars who can say the same things Tim says, if not better.

My words to Tim Wise: Black-America could use a few white allies, but we dont need white leaders attempting to claim some sort of moral medal for doing what every human being should be expected to do: the right thing.

NSA shooting: Officer injured at Fort Meade security gate …

Three people were injured at Fort Meade early Wednesday when the driver of an SUV attempted to enter the National Security Agency compound, authorities said.

Thursday update: 1 suspect transferred, 2 released

The driver and two passengers in the black SUV were taken into custody after the incident shortly before 7 a.m. at Gate 1 on Canine Road off Maryland Route 32. A spokesman for the FBIs Baltimore field office said late Wednesday that investigators are examining the possibility that the driver might have made a wrong turn into the complex, but it is not the only theory they are considering.

Injured were an NSA police officer, the driver of the SUV and a civilian bystander, said Gordon B. Johnson, special agent in charge for the FBIs Baltimore office. He said the SUV had three occupants.

Johnson described the encounter as an isolated incident."

I cannot emphasize enough that we believe there is no indication that this has a nexus to terrorism, Johnson said.

The FBI is taking the lead in the investigation. Johnson told reporters Wednesday that only limited information was available to be shared.

He said shots were fired during the incident, but did not believe any of the injuries were caused by gunfire. He would not say who opened fire, but said it appeared the gunfire was directed at the vehicle.

Authorities had not released the names of the people in the SUV Wednesday evening.

Johnson said all were male but he did not know their ages. Two occupants of the vehicle were in custody of the NSA. The driver was hospitalized.

We are trying to talk to them to understand why they were here, Johnson said.

The injuries to the police officer and civilian onlooker were not considered life-threatening, he said. He said he did not have information on the condition of the driver.

Johnson said the driver of the SUV attempted to enter the NSA campus at about 6:55 a.m. The vehicle had New York plates. Investigators believe it was a rental.

This vehicle did come onto the NSAs compound unauthorized, Johnson said. NSA police responded accordingly.

Television footage showed the vehicle with bullet holes in the window, stopped against a white concrete barrier bearing the letters NSA.

Authorities shut Route 32 down in both directions at Canine Road during the morning rush hour. Anne Arundel County fire personnel assisted the Fort Meade Fire Department in clearing the scene around 8:45 a.m. The Maryland State Highway Administration reopened the road before 9 a.m.

Anne Arundel County school officials said operations at nearby Meade Senior High School were not affected.

President Donald J. Trump was briefed on the shooting, spokeswoman Lindsay Walters said, and the White House offered thoughts and prayers with those who have been affected.

In March 2015, an NSA police officer shot and killed the driver of an SUV at an entrance to the agencys campus.

In that case, authorities said the driver ignored orders to turn around and then accelerated toward an officer.

The officer shot at the vehicle, killing the driver and wounding a passenger.

Baltimore Sun Media Group reporters Kevin Rector, Ian Duncan, Sean Welsh, Ellen Fishel and Rachael Pacella and The Associated Press contributed to this article.

Mike Pence rips Joy Behar, ‘The View’ debate linking his …

Vice President Mike Pence says recent comments by comedian Joy Behar about his religious faith demonstrate just how out of touch she is with the rest of America.

The ladies of ABCs The View found themselves wondering if Mr. Pence has a mental illness this week after former White House staffer Omarosa Manigault-Newman opined on his Christian faith. Her claim on Celebrity Big Brother that Jesus tells [Mr. Pence] to say things worried Ms. Behar, but the vice president said she and ABC executives should be more concerned with in-house bigotry.

It is just simply wrong for ABC to have a television program that expresses that kind of religious intolerance, Mr. Pence said Wednesday during an Axios event in Washington.

President Trumps right-hand man also said that Ms. Behars views were emblematic of some in the mainstream media, The Hill reported.

Its one thing to talk to Jesus, Ms. Behar, an agnostic, said during Tuesdays show. Its another thing when Jesus talks to you. Thats called mental illness if Im not correct. Thats hearing voices.

The comedian shifted her position after co-host Meghan McCain said Jesus speaks to her every morning.

I think that Mike Pence, say what you will about Mike Pence and his religiosity and everything else, I dont think that hes mentally ill even though he says he is hearing voices, she said. I dont think hes that crazy. He has no charisma whatsoever.

The hypocrisy here is practically palpable, the conservative group MRC Action said in an emailed statement released Thursday.

If someone made a similar statement about Islam, the women on The View and their leftist cohorts would be outraged. As it is, offending the 280 million Christians in America doesnt bother them at all, added the group, which describes itself as the grassroots arm of the Reston, Virginia-based Media Research Center.
