Hillary Clinton: Writing my book can be ‘so exhausting’ – Washington Examiner

Hillary Clinton said Thursday that the act of writing her book is sometimes "exhausting" and requires her to either talk a walk, or take a nap.

"Sometimes I'll work on it for a couple of hours. I have a little writing area in the attic of our little farm house," she said at the Book Expo in New York.

"And you know, I'll work on it, and I've got, you know, great colleagues who are doing research and helping me think through how best to present things," she said.

"And it's so exhausting that I just literally have to get up," Clinton added. "Either go for a walk or go to bed. Those are my two choices."

Clinton said her book would be about her failed presidential election and how she felt about it as it unfolded in full public view last year.

She said she was writing about her experience as the first woman to ever be nominated as a major party candidate.

Clinton's memoir is expected to be published in September.

‘Pittsburgh Voted for Hillary Clinton:’ Pittsburgh Mayor Responds After Trump Cites City in Climate Speech – KTLA

President Donald Trump invoked the people of Pittsburgh to defend his climate change decision Thursday, and the citys mayor bristled in response.

Explaining his choice to withdraw the US from the Paris climate agreement, Trump said: I was elected to represent the citizens of Pittsburgh, not Paris.

Pittsburghs Democratic Mayor Bill Peduto, in an interview on CNNs The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer, said Trump was off-base to point to his choice as benefiting the city in part because Pittsburgh swung strongly for Hillary Clinton.

The city of Pittsburgh voted for Hillary Clinton with nearly 80% of the vote, Peduto said. He may be talking about all of western Pennsylvania, but its a far cry from being Pittsburgh.

Pittsburgh is in Allegheny County, a blue pocket in the red region of Western Pennsylvania. Allegheny as a whole swung by more than 10 points for Clinton.

Peduto told CNN affiliate WPXI he was outraged at Trumps line.

Pittsburgh is the example, Peduto said. We were that city that China is like today where the smoke was so, filled the air so much, that the streetlights would stay on 24 hours.

Peduto told CNN he would issue an executive order Friday pledging Pittsburgh would follow through on carbon reduction goals.

Its up to cities not the federal government to ensure carbon emission guidelines are being followed, according to the mayor.

In cities across America, youll see mayors standing up and saying, we got this, he told AC 360.

When host Anderson Cooper asked him whether he has a message for the President, the mayor said: What you did was not only bad for the economy of this country, but also weakened America in this world.

On Twitter after Trumps speech, Peduto pushed back against the President invoking Pittsburgh.

The United States joins Syria, Nicaragua & Russia in deciding not to participate with worlds Paris Agreement. Its now up to cities to lead, Peduto tweeted.

However, Russia signed on to the Paris agreement, and the US is joined only by Syria, a war-torn nation, and Nicaragua, which argued for a stronger agreement, in opposing the international accord.

Peduto told CNN he was in Paris when the agreement was being forged and also argued that responsibility for the bulk of the US commitments lay with the states, not Washington.

The Pittsburgh area has a noted air pollution issue. The American Lung Association gave Allegheny a failing grade in its most recent State of the Air report.

Man jailed for refusing to disclose iPhone passcode underlines Fifth Amendment uncertainties – 9to5Mac

The law lags badly behind technology in a great many areas. One area where there is still huge uncertainty is whether the Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination protects someone who refuses to disclose the passcode to their phone.

Weve seen conflicting rulings in the past, and a Miamireport shows that rulings may even vary between courts in the same state

TheMiami Herald reports that a child abuse suspect was jailed for six months for contempt of court after failing to reveal the correct passcode to his iPhone. Christopher Wheeler was arrested on suspicion of hitting and scratching his young daughter, with police believing that photos on the iPhone would help prove their case.

Detectives believe that his phone contains images of repeated injuries to the child, which could prove evidence in the case. A Broward judge earlier authorized a search warrant for Wheelers iPhone, but detectives had been unable to get in.

When a judge ordered him to provide the pass code, it didnt work. Rothschild held him in criminal contempt earlier this month.

Wheeler claimed he had given police the code and didnt know why it didnt work. The judge ruled that he would be released from jail if he reveals the correct code.

In a separate case in the same state, aMiami-Dade judge decided against holding a suspect in contempt of court for similarly refusing to reveal his passcode. Extortion suspectWesley Victor claimed that he didnt remember his passcode, and the judge ruled that there was no way to know given the passage of time.

[Wesley Victor was] accused of extorting a social-media celebrity over stolen sex videos. [He] and his girlfriend had been ordered by a judge to produce a pass code to phones suspected of containing text messages showing their collusion in the extortion plot. Victor claimed he didnt remember the number. He prevailed.

On Tuesday, Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Charles Johnson ruled that there was no way to prove that Victor actually remembered his pass code, more than 10 months after his initial arrest.

Back in 2014, a Virginia District Court ruledthat phone passcodes are protected by the 5th Amendment, though there is no such protection against using a suspects fingerprint to unlock a phone. Another Florida court took the opposite stance, insisting that the 5th Amendment does not apply to passcodes.

The legal position on using Touch ID to unlock a phone seems clearer, where multiple court rulings have decided that a fingerprint is the equivalent of a safe key, and police are free to use a suspects fingerprint to unlock the device. You can read a 2014 analysis of the legal position of both forms of protection here.

The Fifth Amendment in Congressional Investigations – Secrecy News (blog)

Individuals have a broad right to refuse to testify before Congress by invoking the Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination, the Congressional Research Service explained last week.

Even a witness who denies any criminal wrongdoing can refuse to answer questions on the basis that he might be ensnared by ambiguous circumstances.

On the other hand, the scope of the Fifth Amendment privilege applies more narrowly when it comes to a congressional demand that a witness produce documents. The Supreme Court has made clear that the mere fact that the contentsof a document may be incriminating does not mean that the document is protected from disclosure under the Fifth Amendment.

Here’s Erdogan Henchman Who Choked Woman At Turkish Embassy …

The Daily Caller has identified three of Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogans bodyguards who were involved in a brutal attack against peaceful protesters earlier this month, including one who was seen choking a woman and throwing her violently to the ground.

Ismail Dalkiran, Servet Erkan and Hakan Gebesare the names of three of the Erdogan goons who took part in the assault of Kurdish protesters on May 16 outside of the embassy in Washington, D.C. All three are part of Erdogans security detail and live in Turkey.

Eleven people were injured in the melee, which began after Erdogans security detail and supporters of the authoritarian attacked a small group of Kurdish protesters positioned across the street from the embassy.

Dalkiran is one of the more visible participants in the violence.

Dark-haired with hints of gray, Dalkiran was seen on video choking Ceren Borazan, a 26-year-old Kurdish woman protesting Erdogans visit. Borazan, who has said in interviewers that her assailant also threatened to kill her, has led a social media campaign to help find her attacker.

TheDC showed Borazan photos of Dalkiran from his Facebook page, and she confirmed that he is the man who assaulted her.

Dalkiran is connected to Erkan and Gebes on Facebook. And it is the involvement of the latter two in the attacks that provides additional proof that Erdogan directly ordered the blitz against the protesters.

Both men were seen in the small circle surrounding Erdogan as he sat in a black Mercedes Benzjust moments before the violent event unfolded.

Gebes, who is thin and sports a mustache, is the man who appears to have relayed instructions from Erdogan to launch the attack. Video shows him receiving commands from a man identified by The New York Times as Muhsin Kose, Erdogans chief of security.

Kose is seen on video leaning into Erdogans vehicle before emerging to speak to Gebes, who nods his head in affirmation before running toward the street where the attack would soon unfold.

Erkan, a large man with a bald head who had been stationed near Erdogans vehicle, was seen on video punching at least two protesters.

After around 30 seconds of violence, Erkan is seen walking back into Erdogans tight security circle. He, Gebes, Muhsin and other bodyguards protecting their boss then walk toward the entrance of the Turkish embassy.

Erkan may also be the man who issued commands to carry out the assault.

Analysis of the videos conducted for TheDC revealed a voice shoutingdaln diyor, servetabidaln diyor. That translates to Servet says attack or Servet says dive in. (RELATED: Audio Analysis: Erdogan Goons Were Ordered To Attack Protesters)

All three of the men left various indications on Facebook that they were visiting Washington, D.C. Dalkiran checked in to the city on May 13. Gebes posted several pictures around the city, including in front of the White House and with several other Erdogan henchmen at a restaurant in the capital city.

Gebes also posted a picture in DC with Erkan and two other men who are most likely members of Erdogans posse.

Erkan received praise from his compatriots after returning home to Turkey.

The valiant man who ordered the attack against the traitors in America, wrote a man who posted a photo with Erkan on Twitter in the days after the attack.

It is unlikely that the three men will face criminal charges over the attacks. Like numerous others involved in the fight, the trio are likely covered by diplomatic immunity. But they could potentially be blocked from entering the U.S. should Erdogan one day return.

None of the men responded to requests for comment submitted through Facebook. The Turkish embassy also did not respond to an email request for comment.

The State Department has claimed it is investigating the incident. The agency also rebuked the Turkish government in the strongest possible terms last week.(RELATED: Meet The Erdogan Goon Who Kicked A Woman During Embassy Brawl)

Four private citizens have already been identified as attackers.

Eyup Yildirim, an American citizen who owns a construction company in New Jersey, was identified by TheDC as one of the men seen kicking a female Kurdish protester named Lucy Usobyn.

Cousins Alpkenan Dereci and Ahmet Dereci, both wearing street clothes, were also seen punching protesters. They appear to have previous connections to Yildirim.

The New York Times also identified a man named Sinan Narinas kicking Usobyn. He confirmed to The Times that he kicked Usobyn but said he did not know she was a woman.

Usobyn has told TheDC that she suffered a concussion from the attack and will require six weeks to fully heal.

None of those men are likely to have diplomatic immunity, so it is unclear why they have yet to be arrested.
