Mike Pence to campaign for Karen Handel in Georgia House race – Washington Examiner

Vice President Mike Pence is heading to Georgia on Friday to campaign with Karen Handel, the Republican candidate running to replace Secretary of Health and Human Services Tom Price in the House.

The White House announced Thursday that Pence will head to Georgia on Friday morning, first to speak with airmen and other service members at Dobbins Air Reserve Base in Marietta.

Following that appearance, he'll attend an event with Handel. He committed to campaign for Handel late last month.

Handel is running a tough campaign against Democrat Jon Ossoff, who finished first in the primary election earlier this year but didn't get enough votes to win Price's old seat then. The run-off election is set for June 20.

Pence signed an email fundraising appeal for Handel's campaign earlier this week as the Republican tries to make up the funding gap between her and Ossoff's campaign. He's raised more than $8.3 million in the first three months of the year, whereas Handel only raised $500,000.

The seat for Georgia's 6th Congressional District has been held by Republicans for decades. The election is seen as a sort of referendum for President Trump's administration and whether Democrats can mount a challenge to Republican dominance of the federal government in the 2018 election.

Happy birthday, Mike Pence! 2500 people donate to Planned Parenthood in the VP’s honor – Shareblue Media

It is likely safe to say that Mike Pence has never donated a dime to Planned Parenthood.

But a raft of recent gifts to the reproductive health organization still bear the vice presidents name.

Politico reports that over 2,500 people donated to Planned Parenthood in honor of Pences 58th birthday, in just the latest way individuals are making their voice heard, according to the group.

The call had gone out on Twitter, and supporters of reproductive freedom stepped up:

Make Mike Pences Birthday Great

Planned Parenthood (@PPact) June 7, 2017

Pence has played a major role in the Trump administrations crusade against abortion rights in general, and Planned Parenthood in particular something he pointedly patted himself on the back for, basking in the applause it brought him from anti-choice religious conservatives.

In fact, one of the most dangerous things Pence brought to the Donald Trump campaign, and now to the White House, was his intense hostility to reproductive freedom and bodily autonomy.

But reproductive justice advocates and activists are not about to let Pence and the GOP destroy these basic human rights without a fight, and they are putting their money where their mouths are and Pences, too.

Mike Pence takes his birthday to new heights aboard Air Force Two … – ABC News

Mike Pence took his birthday celebrations to new heights Wednesday.

The vice president celebrated his 58th birthday while traveling on Air Force Two to Houston, where he welcomed 12 new astronauts in a ceremony at NASA's Johnson Space Center. Joining Pence's sky-high celebrations on board the aircraft were Sen. Ted Cruz, as well as Reps. Brian Babin and Lamar Smith.

Cruz tweeted a photo of the balloon-filled cabin, writing, "Wishing @VP a Happy Birthday! He's a very good man. Am on Air Force 2 right now, decked out to celebrate, as we head down to @NASA_Johnson."

"Preparations are underway on Air Force Two for a special birthday trip to Houston for @VP Mike Pence," Pence press secretary Marc Lotter tweeted, along with photos of "Happy Birthday" balloons and party hats scattered across Air Force 2.

And it appears that Pence enjoyed the airborne festivities, tweeting a photo of himself in the balloon- and streamer-filled cabin. "Fun way to start a birthday," he tweeted. "Thanks team for decorating AFII! Glad to have @SenTedCruz, @RepBrianBabin, & @LamarSmithTX21 aboard! #VPinTX."

And the party didn't stop once he arrived in Houston. NASA officials presented him with a birthday cake with the NASA logo emblazoned across it that read, "Happy Birthday Vice President Pence."

"One of the coolest birthday cakes I've ever had. Thanks, @NASA!" Pence tweeted.

"Thank you, everyone, for the warm birthday wishes," read another tweet. "Enjoyed my day w/ the astronaut candidates at @NASA_Johnson!"

And although the vice president enjoyed celebrating his birthday with his colleagues and staff, he was eager to celebrate it with his wife, Karen.

"Thanks! Busy and fun day in Houston, and just returned to D.C. Looking forward to being home soon with @SecondLady," he tweeted in response to the second lady's birthday greeting tweet.

The commencement for the Class of 2017 was the last on the Sarno football field, as the district will soon build a new high school.

STOUGHTON People always ask Stoughton High Principal Juliette Miller whether she has any children.

Her answer? Only about 8,000.

On Thursday evening, she watched another 226 of them the members of Stoughton High Schools Class of 2017 don their caps and gowns and walk across the stage to claim their diplomas.

Miller said shes confident each of them will be able to accomplish their own version of success, and that theyll never stop learning.

That youll do what you love, and that you will find your purpose and live with passion, she said. Above all, regardless of your failures or success, you will be kind and show kindness to others.

She told them even the smallest gesture of kindness has the potential to change the world.

Class Valedictorian Rebecca McSweeney recalled digging out her elementary school yearbook and seeing poems written about the teachers that have now taken on a new meaning.

I saw the I in Ms. Gabriels name reads Its all in the attitude is Ms. Gabriels favorite quote, she said. It may not have seemed profound as an 11-year-old but now I see why its her favorite quote.

She said it embodies the ideals by which shes chosen to live her life. When faced with three science classes that McSweeney didnt pick in one semester during sophomore year, she persevered with a positive attitude, and the result was a decision to pursue a career in the sciences.

These traits remain valuable no matter what we decide to do, she said. We can play sports, or be in student government, or any number of passions, and this advice can guide us through it all.
