Pence says Obamacare is in ‘death spiral,’ cites insurer exits – Washington Times

Vice President Mike Pence on Tuesday said Obamacare is in the throes of an ongoing collapse and that states across the Midwest will suffer the most next year, even as one insurer announced it is bucking the grim outlook and expanding its footprint in the laws exchanges.

Mr. Pence said the Senate is working tirelessly on a replacement plan that would provide a smooth transition to a market-based system that empowers states.

Key senators will visit the White House later in the day to discuss the plan, which is being negotiated in secret.

The vice president didnt say whats in the emerging legislation, though he outlined the administrations case against the Affordable Care Act, as a series of insurers pull out of markets or request double-digit increases.

Mr. Pence pointed to maps showing numerous counties in Ohio, Missouri and Iowa that will have only one choice under Obamacare next year, or could have no options at all.

It is a death spiral, he said in an address to Health and Human Services Department employees.

Insurers say the 2010 law itself is partly to blame, though they also point to President Trumps wavering commitment to enforcing the law, including his refusal to ensure reimbursements for insurers who lose money on poorer customers costs.

Even so, Centene Corp. said Tuesday it is assuming a bigger role on the exchanges, entering Kansas, Missouri and Nevada for 2018 and reaching further into Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Ohio, Texas, and Washington.

Centenes membership in the exchanges grew from about 537,000 on Dec. 31to 1.2 million members as of March 31.

Centene recognizes there is uncertainty of new health care legislation, but we are well positioned to continue providing accessible, high quality and culturally sensitive health care services to our members, Centene President and CEO Michael F. Neidorff said. Centene has demonstrated disciplined execution, agility and capacity to successfully navigate industry changes to the benefit of our members, customers and shareholders.

N-word being uttered by White People. – ThyBlackMan

(ThyBlackMan.com) Dear white people: You have been brainwashed. In your brainwashing, you are surrendering your freedom, sanity and country. We all know that most blacks are brainwashedthey hate good, excuse evil, blame whites and elect the worst people as leaders. All angry people are brainwashed, because all angry people believe lies. One sign of mass delusion is the reaction by blacks and whites to the so-called N-word nigger.

Blacks dont care about the so-called N-word. They care about manipulating whites with false guilt, fear and sympathy.

Last week I wrote about the melodrama of LeBron James, who said, Being black in America its tough, after the gate of one of his fancy homes was supposedly vandalized with the so-called N-word. It could be another hate-crime hoax no perpetrator found yet liberals blame racism in America.

Last month, comedian and talk-show host Bill Maher was invited to work in the fields by Nebraska Republican Sen. Ben Sasse. Maher jokingly balked, Work in the fields? Senator! Im a house nigger! It was a funny comment, good-natured, ironic (hes a white Jew), self-deprecating (as one of Americas most recognized entertainers) and true (he works indoors, not manual labor outdoors). The crowd laughed and applauded. But leftists forced Maher to apologize repeatedly. Unfortunately, Maher complied.

HBO promised to cut Mahers funny N-word joke out of future airings of the show. Black Lives Matter agitator DeRay Mckesson said Maher has to go. Maher said he lost sleep that night, admitted he was wrong (he wasnt) and apologized (for no reason but appeasement). RINO Sen. Ben Sasse sanctimoniously tweeted about his responsibility to correct Maher, suggesting Mahers use of the N-word was an attack on human dignity. Liberal Sen. Al Franken canceled his appearance on Real Time with Bill Maher in fake outrage.

The following week, Maher interviewed intellectual Michael Eric Dyson, a black preacher called by his mama (not by God). Dyson thinks blacks cant be racist but that somehow whites can. (In reality, racism does not exist. There is only hate, and most blacks have that in spades.) This man is blind as a bat. But Maher was forced to grovel in a ridiculous display, saying his use of the word caused pain. It didnt. Hes absolutely wrong about that.

Black pain is from black anger inherited not from a legacy of racism, but from angry, single, black mothers and grandmothers, and by weak, phony, black men and women posing as preachers and leaders.

Millions watched Maher sit and take it while gangsta rapper Ice Cube and black female loudmouth Symone Sanders spewed guilt trips at Bill to try to shame all whites out of using our word, citing how blacks were allegedly beaten and raped by white slave masters who supposedly also called them the so-called N-word. None of this has anything to do with Bill or blacks or whites today.

Bill did not look a bit fooled, yet he sat there with his mouth shut and let them speak their madness. It was truly painful to watch. As Marvin Gaye sang, Oh what a shame such a sad way to live.

There have been enough exaggerated slave movies and fake news about racism to make it seem like the fairytale of black people suffering at the hands of white people is real and present. As Dinesh DSouza said, black slave masters treated their blacks much more harshly than white masters.

Today, blacks are raping, robbing, beating and killing whites (not to mention one another) at alarming rates, as blacks dominate interracial crime rates and violent crime numbers generally (for the latest incidents of black cruelty, check out Colin Flaherty on YouTube). But blacks are coddled in liberal academic environments, and theyre encouraged to express open hostility toward white people. Blacks falsely accuse innocent whites of racism and murder, and they never give them the benefit of the doubt. Yet blacks turn around and complain about racial profiling and injustice.

I didnt hear the so-called N-word growing up in the South during the Jim Crow era. But now, angry black people call me the N-word every day (as well as Uncle Tom, sellout, Uncle Ruckus, coon, King Coon, Coon of the Year and other truth-teller nicknames), and many of them wish harm on me. Blacks call one another the N-word in anger and camaraderie you hear it in the halls at public schools, media and entertainment. I sometimes scare my white audiences by saying the N-word to break the spell of fear it has on them.

Blacks hate whites saying the so-called N-word because blacks dont want whites to be free of guilt and fear.

When Barack Obama was in office, I wrote a Second Emancipation Proclamation for Whites, freeing them from their enslavement to fear and false guilt about racism that has never existed. Then they can stand up with courage to fight evil. I urge white people to pray, look within and wake up before its too late to save our country.

Acton-Boxborough relay teams medal in New England track meet – Wicked Local Boxborough

Special to The Beacon

On Saturday June 10, three Acton-Boxborough Outdoor Track relay teams competed in the New England championship meet at Norwell High School.

All three A-B relay teams medaled at New Englands, finishing within the top six in their events. To qualify for the New England Championship, the relay teams finished within the top six at the Massachusetts All-State meet on June 3.

The girls 4x400 meter relay team (Sara Mitchell, Alex Saganich, Samantha Friborg, and Samantha Cannarozzi) placed third with a time of 3:58.84, behind Ridgefield Connecticut and Westerly Rhode Island.

Coach Kenneth Feit said, The girls were outstanding. They were focused and determined. It was also an excellent way to compete the season, and for seniors Sara Mitchell and Sam Cannarozzi to finish their high school careers. So proud of all of them.

The boys 4x400 relay team of seniors Matt Antes, Brendan Flaherty, Ben Rubin, and Colin Grip, placed fifth at 3:21.07.

Coach Brian Crossman said, They just missed the 6-year-old school record by an agonizing one hundredth of a second. The boys 4x800 relay (seniors Patrick Nero and Jack Culhane, sophomore Gabe Lundy, and junior Jack Gardiner) placed sixth with a time of 8:00.36.

Culture Wars on Baeble Music – Baeble Music (blog)

Artist bio

Culture Wars wasted no time releasing their first single Money (Gimmie, Gimmie) that came blazing out of the gate with an addictive electro-rock sound and swagger according to PopMatters.

The forthcoming debut Culture Wars EP is pure adrenaline with production by longtime collaborator Robert Sewell and mixing by Manny Marroquin (Kanye West, Imagine Dragons) and Alan Moulder (The Killers, Nine Inch Nails). The debut quickly establishes Culture Wars as a band with their own distinct style, merging edgy, infectious song craft with electronic textures, punchy guitar work, and the commanding vocals of charismatic front man Alex Dugan.

The band draws upon various recording environments conjuring vibrant music thats sonically adventurous yet instantly accessible. Whether working on laptops or in the remote setting of Sonic Ranch just outside of El Paso, Culture Wars unique working methods build upon the trios creative chemistry.

A lot of our tracks have the appearance of a rock song, but underneath there's all sorts of weird experimental shit going on. We'll strike a match and record that sound, and put it through a reverb plug-in, and stick it underneath a track so it sounds like a percussion instrument. Or we'll record the sound of the rain outside on our iPhones, and we'll put some reverb and delay on that, and use it as a texture, Alex explains.

As the band worked closely with producer Sewell, and in-demand mixers Moulder and Marroquin on board, Culture Wars benefits from an uncommonly talented creative team. The three of us spent time in other bands trying to make something happen, but in this one things just seem to happen without us having to push it. It's been a big adjustment to have so many great people caring about what we're doing. Its a lot more enjoyable this way, says Alex.

Can Everipedia remake collaborative encyclopedias to be inclusive and enjoyable? – Boing Boing

English Wikipedia participation peaked ten years ago and is down about 20,000 active users a month from its high point. Three big factors often get cited: deletionism, poor mobile editing options, and a lost spirit of inclusiveness. Everipedia wants to address all three with the latest attempt at an encyclopedia of everything. I spoke with co-founder Sam Kazemian about the project, which often pops up as a top search result for college-related news and people. Can they crack the code of next-gen participation?

When I wrote about Wikipedias deletion of "Chickenhead," I opined that a component of bias led to its deletion. The song is a Dirty South anthem that features underground legend Project Pat and La Chat, a notable female rapper in that subgenre. Wikipedia editors meticulously detail locomotive engines and software programs, while topics like fashion and female scientists get short shrift. However, even a lot of young white nerdy guys who form Wikipedias base have been driven from the project by deletionists, who search and destroy anything too detailed or obscure, respectively labeled fancruft and non-notable in Wikipedia lingo.

Unlike Wikipedia, Everipedia has an extensive entry on Chickenhead, including gifs from the music video and links to many sources which confer its notability. In Wikipedia jargon, the opposite of deletionism is inclusionism, and theres an inclusionist spirit to Everipedia. I joined under the name DeletionistsKillWikis to give it a test run and found it to be much more user-friendly, especially on a mobile device.

When they say its OK to include everything, they mean it. Shortly after my article on the deletion of hemovanadin, Everipedia user DaveLiebowitz enhanced Everipedia's version of Wikipedias article on me (called a fork in Wikispeak) with some gifs and links. Dave also has an Everipedia entry and even created an article titled Dave's Sriracha Shirt, about his favorite shirt emblazoned with Huy Fong Foods' Sriracha bottle:

Sriracha is a curious obsession on Everipedia. Others have written about their Sriracha onesies:

While this would immediately be deemed unworthy on Wikipedia and deleted, these articles reflect the fun Everipedia is trying to inject back into collaborative editing.

Its been a few months since I last checked in. One aspect of the fun is the gamification of editing, where editors get IQ points for edits. I stopped at 73 IQ because I thought that was funny next to my name. Everipedia's Chickenhead page is still up, but it hasnt had much activity since I did a little test drive. Still, it's vastly better than Wikpedia's deleted page.

Hip-hop culture has a large presence on Everipedia, reflecting its college-age users and their interests. That is also reflected in the interest of their co-founder and guiding spirit Mahbod Moghadam, who got involved after leaving the Rap Genius project he co-founded, bringing in angel investors like Theodor Forselius. Moghadam told me in an email, "I think that just like Genius, Everipedia is transforming the Internet. Sam, our CEO, is the most talented person I've ever met - he is the next Zuck!!" So I reached out to Kazemian for some background on the site he co-founded in 2015.

BB: What are Everipedias five most-viewed pages?

BB: Thats interesting, because none of those women or people of color have their own articles on Wikipedia. How does Everipedia distinguish its content and approach from fan-powered sites like Rap Genius or Wikia, which has a Hip-Hop database?

BB: Wikipedias visual editor was released to poor reviews. Wikis live and die by their active user base. What are you doing to attract and retain users that's different from competitors?

BB: What can you tell me about your typical editor, and what trends have you seen in editing patterns?

BB: I first came across Everipedia because users were constructing articles about whatever internet drama or viral news item was blowing up that day, often about people or events Wikipedia would consider non-notable. In that sense, your site competes with Heavy.

BB: One article I read was a summary of a 4chan investigation on the identity of anti-Trump protester Eric Clanton. Some of the information was disputed, and the article stated he committed crimes before he had been charged. What steps are you taking to protect living people from defamation?

BB: It still seems that there's potential for misuse. How would you deal with an article about or referring to someone who doesn't want to be covered?

BB: Have you had to delete any articles yet? Is so, can you describe them?

BB: Have you had to ban any users, and if so, why?

BB: Is there a limit to what is worthy of a page?

Time will tell with Everipedia, but shaking up the status quo is what always leads to advances in knowledge. At the very least, let's hope it prompts Wikipedia to take a harder look at its ongoing issues of including more diversity in both its articles and editors. The two go hand in hand.
