The Left Loves Illegal Immigrants Until They’re Israeli ‘Settlers’ – The Federalist

The state of Israel has apparently approved the largest settlement construction in Judea and Samaria (a.k.a. the West Bank) in 25 years. Of course, leftists continue to express outrage over Jewish communities existence in Judea and Samaria. The European Union went so far as to assert that Israels continued policy of settlement expansion is illegal under international law.

The so-called settlements arent illegal, but that view exposes leftist hypocrisy that reeks of anti-Semitism. Lets begin with a description of the problem.

Over the last few decades, hundreds of thousands of people from one country have illegally moved themselves into another countrys territory. They have settled the land, using its resources, creating cultural and ethnic enclaves, and changing (probably irrevocably) the demographics of the land into which theyve migrated.

Whats more, many of them regularly point out that the land theyve settled was once theirs and had been illegitimately taken from members of their nation in the past. On one side, these settlers supporters dont see anything wrong with what theyve done. On the other side, opponents call them illegal and demand their deportation. Every U.S. president in the last few decades has tried and failed to resolve this conflict.

Im thinking, of course, of Mexicans.

If the point isnt already clear, allow me to elaborate: Leftists are almost invariably opposed to Jewish settlements in Judea and Samaria, including East Jerusalem, where there have been Jews from time immemorial. They declare that Jewish settlements are both immoral and illegal. (Note leftists use the word illegal rather than undocumented.)

They demand that these Jews be deported back to Israel proper. They worry that Jews living in Judea and Samaria are a demographic threat to the Arabs. In summary, leftists are virulently against (allegedly) illegal Jewish immigration into lands once occupied and controlled by their ancestors and support their forced expulsion back to the country from which they emigrated.

Does that sound familiar? It should, for that position is indistinguishable from one of President Trumps positions on illegal Mexican immigration. And whats the leftist response to the presidents previous proposal of deportation? Racism! Bigotry!

If so, leftists also deserve these indictments, for they support the mass expulsion of (allegedly) illegal Jewish immigrants. If the fact that someone is here illegally isnt, by itself, sufficient to morally justify his expulsion from this country, then the mere fact that Jewish settlers are illegal isnt, by itself, sufficient to morally justify their expulsion. And if Jews can be permissibly expelled only because their presence in Judea and Samaria is illegal, then illegal aliens can be permissibly expelled only because their presence in the United States is illegal.

If the leftist wishes to have consistent beliefs, he must accept these propositions. He cant have his cake and eat it too.

Alas, the Lefts position is inconsistent. The Left is happy to see millions of illegal alien settlers set up their cultural enclaves with relative impunity. Illegals are fine so long as their descendants will vote for the Democrat Party, but if theyre Jews who want to live in their historic homeland and near their holiest sites, then the land must be cleansed of their presence, with force if necessary. This is rank hypocrisy.

Please dont misunderstand me. Im not claiming that opposing illegal Mexican immigration is analogous to opposing Jewish settlements. On the contrary, the latter is much more morally objectionable. The so-called settlements in Judea and Samaria are not illegal, whereas Mexican illegal immigrants are here illegally.

The piece of international law the Left cites in defense of their position is from Article 49 of the Fourth Geneva Convention, according to which [t]he Occupying Power shall not deport or transfer parts of its own civilian population into the territory it occupies.

The implicit premise connecting this text to the conclusion that the settlements are illegal must be that the state of Israel (i.e. the Occupying Power) has transferred hundreds of thousands of Jews into Judea and Samaria, a proposition that is manifestly false. Jews have, like many Mexicans, transferred themselves. If self-transfer is the same as state-transfer, then Trump was right after all about Mexico sending many of its criminals to the United States!

Also, dont lets forget about racism and anti-Semitism. Even supposing that opposing illegal immigration is bigoted (it isnt), moral opposition to the presence of Jews in Judea and Samaria is much more bigoted. (Opposition on the grounds that settlements are unwise is another matter.)

The idea that Judea and Samaria should be Judenrein, which is precisely what President Obama failed to oppose when he abstained from United Nations Security Council Resolution 2334 and what leftists have consistently supported over the last few decades, is flagrantly anti-Semitic. Or, if it were neither anti-Semitic nor wrong, then it would be permissible for Israel to expropriate the property of and expel Israeli Arabs, for thats precisely what liquidating Jewish settlements would amount to. (Many of the settlements are on land sold to Jews by Arabs, a practice the Palestinian Authority has outlawed on pain of death.) Of course, both would be impermissible instances of ethnic cleansing.

Now imagine what would happen if Benjamin Netanyahu were to publicly express support for making Israel free of Arabs. Hed be crucified. Yet most react to the same policy against Jews in Judea and Samaria with relative equanimity. President Trump ought to change the United States longstanding policy and support Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria.

Nearly 55K Illegal Aliens Given ‘Protection’ under Trump, Says Fed Report – Breitbart News

The Associated Press

by John Binder14 Jun 2017Washington, D.C.0

In total, 54,944 illegal aliens either had their Temporary Protected Status (TPS) renewed by the administration or are new recipients of the classification, which has been derided by immigration hawks for being an indirect amnesty program.

Under Temporary Protected Status, hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens are allowed to remain in the U.S. for up to 18 months, as Breitbart Texas reported. After their protected status has expired, they can re-apply to have the classification renewed.

Although the number of illegal aliens receiving protected status remains high, the Trump Administration did lower the number, which encompasses January through March 2017, from where the Obama Administration had left it.

In Obamas last full three months in office, DHS approved close to 84,000 illegal aliens for temporary protected status.

But while Trumps DHS does not look to be considerably destabilizing the program, Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL) introduced legislation to halt the Temporary Protected Status system.

My bill, the TPS Reform Act, would ensure that temporary means temporary by establishing clear time limitations and creating statutory tests that must be met to grant the TPS designation, Brooks said in an interview about the program. This legislation provides the needed reform for what has become a long-running amnesty program.

Days ago, Breitbart Texas reported how border crossings along the U.S.-Mexico Border increased by 31 percent in May from the previous month.

Mike Pence to speak at Focus on the Family event in Colorado … – The Denver Post

Vice President Mike Pence will speak at Focus on the Family in Colorado Springs later this month as part of the organizations 40th anniversary celebrations, continuing his ongoing support of the groups fierce pro-life stance and work against policies supporting the LGBTQ community.

He plans to speak about a range of issues that affect families in the United States, Allison Meggers, a Focus on the Family spokeswoman, said of Pences June 23 visit.

Meggers said the event will be closed to the public due to limited seating, though members of the media will be allowed to attend. The Gazette was first to report the speech.

The views of Pence and Focus on the Family have long been aligned, with the organization backing him on various contentious social issues.

Recently, Focus on the Family came to Pences defensein March after a Washington Post profile of the vice presidents wife, Karen, noted how he refrains when his spouse is not there from eating dinner alone with another woman or attending an event with alcohol. The revelation drew outrage from womens groups.

A post on the Focus on the Family website supporting Pence was titled, Mike Pence Is Right to Keep Boundaries around His Marriage.

Focus on the Family also supported Pence in 2015 when the then-Indiana governor was taking fire for signing into law theReligious Freedom Restoration Act, which gave business owners the ability to cite their religious views as a reason to refuse service to gay and lesbian customers.

Vice President Mike Pence has been a tireless advocate for families throughout his service in government, Focus on the Family President Jim Daly said in a written statement. Were honored to have him join us in marking 40 years of saving marriages in crisis, equipping moms and dads to thrive as parents, speaking to crucial policy issues and creating a culture of life in our nation.

Focus on the Family began in 1977 and has spread its message through its radio program. It has a sprawling campus in north Colorado Springs, where it is headquartered.

Mike Pence: Obamacare ‘Death Spiral’ One of Most Pressing Issues … – Breitbart News

The Vice President called the ongoing collapse of Obamacare the death spiral one of the most pressing issues facing Americans today. This will be the North Star of our Administration, Pence said of improving the healthcare system.

We are going to repeal and replace Obamacare, he said, citing the broken promises of the Affordable Care Act.

While discussing the promise that premiums would go down, Pence referenced a report that revealed premiums have instead skyrocketed under Obamacare more than doubling for the average American.

While costs are soaringchoices are plummeting. Insurance companies are pulling out of Obamacare left and right, said Pence. A chart displayed above Pence read, Only 10 million enrolled, 28 million still uninsured.

He also referenced the 1.9 million Americans that signed up for plans on the Obamacare exchanges, but have not followed through on paying their premiums. This figure comes from a new Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reportreleased on Monday, detailing the 10.3 million who have paid their premiums as of March 15, out of the 12.2 million who have signed up.

Pence described meeting Julie Champine on a recent trip to Wisconsin. He recalled her story of losing health insurance and her doctor while she faced health issues. She was forced to sign up for an Obamacare plan which in 2016 cost more than $9,000 in premiums for her family and carries a $13,000 deductible. Champines plan premium increased another $2,600 this year, said Pence. Julie told me that her Obamacare health insurance plan costs more than her mortgage and she cant even afford to use it, said Pence. A few months back she dropped her plan for a few months in order to afford Christmas presents for her kids.

Pence remarked how important the men and women who serve in U.S. Health and Human Services are and thanked them for their service.

HHS Secretary Dr. Tom Price said before introducing Pence, that the work of HHS goes beyond the border of the United States and recalled a recent trip to Liberia. He lauded U.S. efforts to beat back Ebola in Africa. Price remarked of the challenges Americans face when it comes to obtaining quality health care. He voiced the goal of getting us to a healthcare system where Americans can afford health care and health coverage. He spoke of stabilizing markets, opening up enrollment options and with the goal of installing a more patient-centered healthcare system.

The Affordable Care Act took a lot of power away from the states, added Price who said they are continuing to make progress on innovations.

In early May, health insurer Aetna pulled out of yet another states individual market, Virginia. CNN Money reported that the company cited massive losses under Obamacare as the reason why. Within days, Fox Business reported that Aetna would pull out of Obamacare exchanges completely by 2018.

After passing through the U.S. House of Representatives, the American Health Care Act sits waiting for a vote on the floor of the U.S. Senate. The bill is designed to roll back much of President Barack Obamas signature health insurance mandate. The bill has been presented as the first of several phases to dismantle Obamacare.

President Trump has often stated that Obamacare is in a death spiral under which healthcare premiums continue to skyrocket. He haspromised to repeal Obamacare.

Following his speech, the Vice President is traveling to the White House for lunch with President Trump and members of Congress. Afterward, Pence will join lawmakers for the Senate Republican Policy lunch and hold additional meetings.

One of the knocks on what some call "Trumpcare" is that, unlike Obamacare, it would not prohibit insurance companies from charging people more if they have preexisting health conditions.

At least, that's the case with the current version of the Republican replacement for Obamacare, which has passed the U.S. House of Representatives.

But in Milwaukee on Saturday, Vice President Mike Pence pledged:

"We're going to make sure that every American with preexisting conditions has access to the coverage and the care that they need -- no exceptions."

PolitiFact Wisconsin finds the promise is misleading if it's based on the House bill andit remains to be seen what the Senate will do.
