Orlando businessman cites Fifth Amendment in bankruptcy case – Orlando Sentinel

An Orlando businessman, Ishrat Rehmetullah, is citing the Fifth Amendment against self-incrimination while arguing in federal bankruptcy court that he shouldnt have to disclose all of his assets.

Remetullah and his wife, Shama, filed a personal bankruptcy in 2014, citing almost $800,000 in debts, which included a $572,000 foreclosure on his home in Dr. Phillips. The debts were discharged and the case was closed.

But the case was reopened in 2015 when some creditors alleged that Rehmetullah had attempted to flee the country, and had failed to report a collection of gold coins, diamonds and real estate he owns in Karachi, Pakistan; those allegations were detailed in a filing by a court-appointed trustee assigned to the case, Richard Webber, .

Webber recently sought a judges order requiring Rehmetullah to report additional assets. Instead of complying, or denying the allegations, Rehmetullahs attorney filed a response saying that reporting additional assets could violate his clients Fifth Amendment rights.

According to a filing by Ishrat Rehmetullahs lawyer, Jeffrey Ainsworth, There have also been suggestions that the debtors in this case will be referred to the United States Attorneys Office for criminal prosecution, which further shows that the debtors fear of criminal prosecution in this case is legitimate.

In a court hearing Tuesday, Ainsworth suggested the political climate in the U.S. could spell trouble for his client: If you look at the current administration, a Pakistani national living in the U.S. is probably a real target.

U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Cynthia Jackson said that the creditors in the case have a right to know if there were additional assets, but she took the matter under advisement and said she would give her opinion later.

Regarding the Fifth Amendment claim, she said: There has to be an imminent threat of criminal prosecution, and I dont see that.

Ishrat Rehmetullah sold a home in Pakistan shortly after filing for bankruptcy, and provided $75,000 from that sale to the bankruptcy trustee, but the trustee has questioned the value of that home. Rehmetullah also turned over some of his coin collection, which was sold for $2,400.

Rehmetullah is the father of two Orlando entrepreneurs who launched a financial technology startup in 2014 called Fattmerchant Suneera Madhani and Sal Rehmetullah. Both siblings were deposed in the bankruptcy case. In 2016, Sal Rehmetullah offered to pay $100,000 to prompt a settlement of his fathers debts, but later that offer was withdrawn. The siblings argued that their father is not formally part of the Fattmerchant business.

Ishrat Rehmetullah and his wife have registered several businesses with the state, including I Travel Florida LLC, Discount Holidays LLC, and Pizza Romas LLC, among others. They had also reported a loan of $100,000 from a Florida company called Oyster Bay Investments.

This 13-Year-Old Just Built a 6-Figure Business Online. What’s Your Excuse? – Inc.com

Morris Laloshi is putting all those negative millennial stereotypes to shame.

At the ripe old age of 20, he's spent the past seven years running his own business - SEO Guys Inc. - generating six figures in revenue and serving clients all over the United States.

And the lessons he's learned are ones anyone (not just millennials) can utilize in building a business in the 21st century.

"My father wanted to bring us to America," says Laloshi, who was born in Albania. "The first chance my father got to leave when Communism there was over, he just left. He sold his four restaurants and never looked back."

Laloshi's family would embark on an odyssey that covered five different countries and 13 different states before finally settling in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

"When I was 13, my father started a cleaning company," Laloshi says. "It was 2010, and I decided I'd build his business website for him. I thought, if you build the website, they will come. But nobody did. I was getting frustrated."

Laloshi went on Google and began researching how to drive traffic to his father's website.

He soon discovered the importance (and power) of Search Engine Optimization, or SEO.

"It was mind-blowing," he says. "I started trying some things here and there, applying what I was learning, and all of a sudden, it started working. My father starting getting new business from his website."

Laloshi began helping others he came across with their websites, providing free SEO services.

"I was a kid," he says. "I had no idea people would pay me money to do it."

Eventually, someone told Laloshi he'd happily pay him $500 to do SEO for a website of his, and a business (SEO Guys Inc.) was born.

While he'd put in the time and effort to learn a skill (SEO), apply it and generate great results for others, Laloshi, still just a teenager, had no idea how to actually build a business.

"The first thing I did was find some mentors," he said. "I sought out people who were doing what I wanted to accomplish, and I asked them for help."

He started with his father, who had owned and run several businesses, and then branched out, eventually finding a full-time business coach, along with going through sales training programs from Grant Cardone and others.

Now, at age 20, Laloshi provides SEO for Fort Lauderdale-based businesses, along with other clients all over the United States.

But building a six-figure business didn't happen overnight, and it didn't happen by accident.

"I started out with one client, and then I tried to turn that into two," Laloshi says. "I started out cold calling - 80, 100, 150 calls every day.

"And it was very, very rough at first because with SEO ... well, if people don't know, SEO is an investment that takes at least six months to start up and start working. So in the meantime, I had to be generating revenue. I had to be generating meetings and finding clients.

"So I just picked the phone and started calling, calling, calling, emailing, doing meet-ups, just everything and anything. And it worked.

"In the beginning, it was pure hustle and effort," he says. "That's how I got my first handful of clients."

Laloshi credits both his upbringing and family's work ethic along with an "old school" approach (he still puts his direct phone number on the front page of his website) as two big reasons he's had so much success.

"People always ask me, how can you be so dialed in when you're only 20 years old?" he says. "Why am I not just out there playing Xbox with my friends? The reason is simple - my family.

"My mom and dad left everything - their family, their friends, everything - just to get me to a country where I won't be held back or limited by anything at all. Even my immigration status doesn't limit me from doing what I love, making money at it and taking care of the people I love."

If you want to be successful in building a business, no matter what age or stage of life you're in, Laloshi says you must do one thing above all others.

"You have to commit," he says. "When I started this little, Fort Lauderdale SEO company, I committed. I quit everything else I was doing, and I committed to building this business. If you don't commit, it doesn't matter what you want to do - you won't do it."

Working hard, finding mentors and refusing to believe anyone owes him a thing.

At age 20, Morris Laloshi is definitely not doing the "lazy millennial" stereotype any favors.

New Study Shows Singapore Companies Outpace Hong Kong Rivals in Internet Marketing – Benzinga

HONG KONG, CHINA--(Marketwired - Jun 21, 2017) - A new study has found that Singapore businesses are three times more likely to be switched on to Internet Marketing than their rivals in Hong Kong. The research, carried out by WL Media HK, shows that Hong Kong firms are being left in the digital dust by Singapore Exchange listed companies, who seem to be more digital savvy and better able to promote their firms online.

Despite its reputation for digital prowess, a greater number of Hong Kong businesses fell short on even the most basic of marketing activities, according to the study. Those based in Hong Kong were less likely to have claimed their free Google My Business listing for example, which is essential for Google local search visibility. More than 7% of listed Hong Kong companies do not even have a phone number registered with Google, meaning that click-to-dial functions on mobile phones won't work. This compares with only 1.2% of Singapore firms missing this essential datum.

"Companies who neglect to claim their listing from Google Business are not taking advantage of one of the most basic ways to promote their business and improve their interaction with their online customers and stakeholders," said Raymond Lowe, from WL Media HK who led the study.

While internet marketing has boomed in Hong Kong over the last ten years, it seems that Singapore continues to have the upper hand and is making bigger inroads into the digital marketplace, despite its smaller stature. "I think the higher level of English skills in Singapore contributes to their advantage," said Winnie Tsoi, Digital Marketing Consultant at http://www.wlmedia.com. "Even with internationalisation much of the technical documentation for Internet Marketing standards currently only exist in English."

Despite Google's dominance of search traffic, some businesses in the study were found to prefer other tools such as social media and directory sites. The Google Business Directory listing applies in Hong Kong and Singapore but has little or no relevance in the rest of China where Google is banned. With Facebook also off-limits behind the Chinese Firewall, a number of Hong Kong companies appear to be more interested in optimising their Baidu listing. This is a problem for those firms wanting to do business internationally, with Baidu used rarely by a Google-first Europe and American marketplace.

Josh Steimle, CEO of MWI said, "Hong Kong companies are missing out on a lot of revenue by ignoring the opportunity offered by Google My Business listings. It is one of the hidden treasures of online marketing in Hong Kong right now, and the local businesses that move first to optimize their listings are going to have a significant advantage over their slower moving competitors."
