The other plaintiffs includeThe Calguns Foundation, the Firearms Policy Coalition, and the Firearms Policy Foundation.

According to CBS SF Bay Area, the suit is filed against Attorney General Xavier Becerra. AttorneyGeorge Lee is representing the plaintiffs and contends that the high-capacity magazine ban violates [the plaintiffs] Second Amendment right to bear arms.

The Firearms Policy Coalition announced the lawsuit and explained the circuitous route which Democrats traveled to secure the magazine ban:

Last year, California Governor Jerry signed into law Senate Bill 1446 (SB 1446), which changed state statutes to completely ban law-abiding people from possessing all large-capacity firearm magazines as of July 1, 2017. Following that, Lt. Governor Gavin Newsoms Proposition 63 (Prop 63) Safety For All Act gun control initiativewhich also contained language banning large-capacity magazineswas passed by voters in the November general election.

Firearms Policy Coalition notes that the thousands of law-abiding Californians who own high-capacity magazines now must remove them from their possession or ownership in the State by July 1 at their own expense or face criminal liability and fines. Again law-abiding citizens must surrender their magazines or destroy them at their own expense.

The plaintiffs contend that the high-capacity magazine ban violates Second Amendment rights by taking away an essential for semi-automatic firearms. They claim such magazines are an intrinsic part of all semi-automatic firearms and are not merely individual pieces of personal property, but rather, are intrinsic and inherent constitutionally-protected parts of constitutionally-protected firearms.

Attorney George Lee added, Not only does the ban infringe on Second Amendment rights, but it is clearly now a taking of private property. Lee points out the suit actually goes further by claiming that the ban amounts to a de facto confiscation.

Milan exhibition highlights migrant crisis – The Straits Times

MILAN Just like how an awardwinning entry about migrants had sparked off reflection at a World Press Photo showcase held in Singapore recently, another exhibition in Milan is offering further fuel for debate.

It offers, through the lens of 65 photographers, an original look at the topic of immigration and the migrant crisis.

The Restless Earth, organised by the Nicola Trussardi foundation, is being presented by the Visual Arts Programme of Milan's Triennale, the title alluding to works by Caribbean poet Edouard Glissant, on how different cultures can live together.

The exhibition - with works from photographers from some 40 countries including Syria and Turkey - is an "exercise in empathy, understanding and intercultural dialogue" to facilitate "a future together", the foundation said.

The works are designed to not only show migrants' experiences, but also hint at perceptions of new arrivals amid the worst refugee crisis Europe has known since World War II.

Italy has been at the front line of the crisis, receiving tens of thousands of migrants attempting the dangerous sea crossing from Libya in vessels that are often barely seaworthy.

Included in the exhibition, which runs through Aug 20, are 26 powerful images taken by Agence FrancePresse photographer Aris Messinis depicting their hazardous journeys.

Another powerful exhibit is Syrian Manaf Halbouni's Nowhere Is Home, comprising a car crammed full of objects to symbolise the transient existence of refugees with nowhere to call their own.

Also throwing into stark relief the human cost of the migrant crisis is an exhibit of passports, damaged mobile phones and other personal items from African refugees.

Hundreds of them drowned off Lampedusa, an island near Sicily, when their vessels capsized in 2013.

Milan itself is an industrial economic hub in the north of Italy, where the anti-immigrant Northern League has sought to extract political capital from the migrant crisis, a divisive issue across the country.

In January, tensions boiled over as residents at a migrant reception centre near Venice set the facility ablaze after the death of a female refugee, which residents blamed on a long delay in getting her medical treatment.

More than 1,000 migrants are thought to have died making the dangerous voyage from Libya to Italy so far this year, according to the United Nation's refugee agency.

Nearly 37,000 have been rescued and brought to camps around the country.

Waters: Trump’s Comments on Illegal Immigration Are ‘Racist,’ ‘Dog Whistling’ – Washington Free Beacon

BY: Sam Dorman April 30, 2017 11:50 am

Rep. Maxine Waters (D., Calif.) responded on Sunday to President Donald Trump's recent comments about illegal immigration, describing them as "racist," "dog whistling," and designed to instill fear in his constituents by mentioning Latinos.

MSNBC's "AM Joy" played a clip of Trump decrying a "surge" in illegal immigration, saying despite voters' concerns, the federal government didn't enforce immigration laws.

"Year after year, you pleaded for Washington to enforce our laws, as illegal immigration surged, refugees flooded in and lax vetting threatened your family's safety and security," Trump said at a Pennsylvania rally on Saturday.

"That is absolutely racist. That's dog whistling," Waters told host Joy Reid, before arguing that Trump used Latinos to"create fear in his constituency."

Waters further described Trump's comments as "absolutely divisive" and said "no leader, no president should be saying and doing the kinds of things he's doing."

Released Illegal Immigrant Accused of Raping, Murdering New Orleans Mother – Breitbart News

Irwin Gomez-Colon, a 31-year-old illegal immigrant from Honduras, is facing second-degree murder charges after he allegedly raped, strangled, and stabbed Nancy Yahaira Gonzalez Rodriguez to death, according to WWL-TV.

Before 2015, Gomez-Colon was arrested by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency in Texas for being in the U.S. illegally. However, Gomez-Colons case was dismissed.

Then, in April 2015, Gomez-Colon was arrested by the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) and charged with allegedly kidnapping, raping, and strangling a woman. The charges against Gomez-Colon, though, were later dropped because of inconsistencies in the statements by the alleged victim, according to the district attorney.

In that case, Gomez-Colon was allegedly friends with the victim when he entered her home. After speaking for about 30 minutes, Gomez-Colon said he was going to use the bathroom, but when he came back, he had a knife and forced the victim into a bedroom where he allegedly raped and strangled her.

Now, Gomez-Colon is accused of murdering Gonzalez Rodriguez, whom police say he raped, strangled, and stabbed more than 20 times. When the victim was found, her 4-year-old son was sitting next to her crying.

Under ICEs newest enforcement policies in accordance with Trump administrations crackdown, the agency places a detainer on any illegal immigrant who is arrested by authorities. The detainer alerts local and state police that the arrested suspect is an illegal immigrant and must be turned over to ICE before being released from custody.

But, in 2015, under the Obama administrations lax enforcement of immigration, ICE only placed detainers on illegal immigrants who were convicted of a crime. This, according to ICE, is why there was no alert to the NOPD back in 2015 that Gomez-Colon was an illegal immigrant when he was arrested and charged for the rape and strangulation of his alleged previous victim.

ICE does have a detainer on Gomez-Colon now. If for any reason the illegal immigrant is let out of New Orleans officials custody, he will be handed over to ICE for deportation.
