Its difficult to write an article about search engine marketing, especially when Google prefers a good amount of content to rank, somewhere around 1000-1500 words per page, and there are so many topics to cover. I created this site as a challenge from one of my clients, to prove that we can rank websites against my own competition. Now, I use this website as a test site to provewrong a few SEO myths. If you have a closer look there is not much to this site at all. There is no about page, contact page, or thousands of other pages the so called Gurus are telling to you make. I plan on keeping the entire site around three to five pages maximum. I currently rank this site for many local SEO related commercial terms and is wide open for negative seo attacks (which I track as well and helps with our research).
From proper on-page site structure to off-site linking practices. Seo is so different for each company we partner with no two campaigns are the same. Some require marketing an e-commerce site, and some need online reputation management (ORM) services. Some businesses just need their website(s) to rank on page one of Google, and want all ten of the positions on page one to completely dominate their competition!
Sure, things have changed A LOT since we started performingSEO services for my contracting company in Edmontonback in 2004. Getting our website promoted to page one was very easy back then. Using my personal background in marketing and carpentry, we could just write a few renovation or home repair related articles, with links to our site and BAM! were in spot one for our money keywords and often multiple related keywords. Making sales and getting new leads was quite natural!
SEO used to be all about link building. It was tedious work and easily done. You didnt need good grammar skills hell, the article didnt even have to make sense! Im sure we have all laid eyes on such a website, written in some foreign language that looked like English. It was just a matter of whoever had the most links won the day.
Then there were all the spam software tools that supported all this work. Now Im not saying that Im a content expert myself, I like to be conversational in my writing style. However, those websiteswere always the ugly, spammy ones sitting at the top of pageone in the first position, and all built with software tools and spam links.
Some web design companies never took the time to understand how the future of digitalmarketing and SEO websites can work and evolve together, and why should they care? It was easy to game the Google page 1 rankings back then. Sadly, some marketing companies still feel this way now.
