Libertarian candidate for governor makes push in NE Fla.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

With just more than three weeks to the election, the men in the race for Florida's governor are making their final push to get votes.

A University of North Florida poll finds former Gov. Charlie Crist in the lead over Gov. Rick Scott in a three-way race between them and Libertarian candidate Adrian Wyllie.

Crist holds a 5-point lead over Scott, 43 percent to 38 percent, with Wyllie polling at 10 percent.

Wyllie is making his rounds in northeast Florida. On Monday afternoon, he hosted a lunch at the World Golf Village. He said it was open to everyone who wanted to know who he is and what he stands for.

The lunch was an intimate, face-to-face meet and greet. Wyllie went to the table, talking with supporters and those who just wanted to learn about what he's stumping for.

"Because we don't have $100 million to spend on TV ads, so this is one of the best opportunities to get the message out to the people," Wyllie said. "And what we're finding is, I'm currently polling anywhere between 15 and 20 percent, depending on the polls."

Wyllie, a business owner and investigative journalist from Pinellas County, is widely considered the underdog to heavy hitters Crist and Scott. But support is picking up, he said, because people want a real person with real answers.

"It's really important to understand that the Republicans and Democrats don't own your vote," Wyllie said. "Your vote is your own, and don't let them scare you into voting one of the same. You know, vote your conscience, and I encourage everyone to look at my platform and take a stand with me because we can win this election."

Wyllie's top platforms are legalizing marijuana, cutting taxes and fighting corruption. He's gotten a lot of attention lately for protesting, even suing, to be included in the gubernatorial debates. He was shut out of the last one hosted by Univision, but said he's pushing to be part of the future debates, including the one that'll be in Jacksonville.

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - A federal judge has denied Libertarian U.S. Senate candidate David Patterson's request to force a public broadcaster to include him in Monday night's debate between Republican Sen. Mitch McConnell and Democratic challenger Alison Lundergan Grimes.

U.S. District Judge Gregory F. Van Tatenhove ruled that Kentucky Educational Television did not exclude David Patterson from its Kentucky Tonight program solely because of his political views. The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled public broadcasters can exclude candidates based on their level of support but not because of their political views.

"The First Amendment is not a rule of quantity at any cost," Van Tatenhove wrote. "Voters may actually benefit by a forum or debate that includes only those candidates that have a realistic chance of winning rather than many voices competing for very limited time. What KET cannot do is pick and choose candidates based on their viewpoints. KET has not done so here."

KET executive director Shae Hopkins said the station believes "all journalists have the right to decide for themselves who to interview and what issues to cover." But she added that KET will "forever be committed to presenting a diverse array of viewpoints, fairly and objectively."

Libertarian Party of Kentucky chairman Ken Moellman said he was not happy with the decision but said the state party does not have enough money to appeal the ruling. Patterson, in a news release, criticized KET for requiring candidates raise a minimum of $100,000 to appear in the debate.

"That means you must be rich or have rich friends to even stand a chance," Patterson said. "Kentuckians now have their hard-earned tax dollars being used to deprive them of knowing their options when they walk into the ballot box."

Perry Farrell of Janes Addiction performs at Fillmore Miami Beach on May 18, 2012, in Miami Beach, Florida. (Billboard)

Janes Addiction frontman Perry Farrell spoke out against Barack Obama recently in an interview with Billboard. The lead singer from the popular alternative rock band says, Obamas got it all wrong. Billboard.com reported:

Frontman Perry Farrell sat down with Billboard at his home to reflect on his memories of the Strip as well as share his fascinating thoughts on politics

I understand a Republicans viewpoint, I really do. I dont dislike them as much as I used to. When I was younger and more nave I used to just say, F you guys. But these days I have more empathy for people with money. I have money now, so I understand wanting to keep your money, the money you worked hard for and also want to have a healthy environment for your kids.

Somebody once said to me, Im a Democrat socially, Im a Republican fiscally. For me, I kind of am almost like that when it comes to politics because I think Obamas got it all wrong. The people that hes taxing are absolutely the hardest-working people and a lot of these people are the people that cant really afford the taxes that hes asking. The super-rich can afford to pay more. It doesnt really put much of a dent in their pocket, but hes taxing people that are really middle-class. I think it starts at $250,000; thats not a lot of money in California. And what is the first thing he does when he gets in office? Pays the banks off. So he can say what he wants. I thought he was a mediocre president

Its interesting you say 250,000 is not a lot?

Thats one year. You ask a successful musician, for some guys thats a good years labor being in that business.

You go back to being a busboy, and here you are sitting in this house.

Would I have ever thought that? No, Ill tell you what, my thought process was I am going to try and buy a house. I asked my friend, Bill, who went to college, How much do houses go for? And he said, You can get a down payment on a house for like $20,000. And I thought, I dont know how Im ever gonna get $20,000. Then it was explained you can go to a bank for a loan.

2015: Buhari urges Nigerians to emulate Osun voters

A national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has urged Nigerians to emulate the people of Osun State, who voted against the Peoples Democratic Party during theAugust 9 governorship poll in the state.

Buhari said this in Osogbo on Monday during a courtesy visit to Governor Rauf Aregbesola at the Government House.

The former Head of State said the governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun states should be an eye opener for Nigerians ahead of the 2015 elections.

Buhari, while congratulating Aregbesola said his re-election was a triumph of democracy and the wishes of the majority of the people.

According to him, the people of the state know what is good for them by resisting the opposition and voting for Aregbesola massively.

The former Head of State said he was in the state to invite the governor to his formal declaration for the presidential race.

He said, Part of why we are here is to congratulate you on your credible re-election and personal leadership qualities.

Ekiti and Osun gave us the latest interpretation of what is ahead of us in 2015 and all Nigerians must be totally aware that it is not going to be very easy in the next five months.

For the next five months, we are on the road again and we are here to ask for your understanding and support. Nigerians want change and they have to prepare and be ready to do exactly what Osun people has done, thats the only way out.

Aregbesola, while responding, thanked the retired general for his visit.

Buhari to declare bid for APC ticket Wednesday

Fomer Head of State, Maj-Gen. Mohammadu Buhari (retd.)

THE campaign group for ex-Head of State, Maj.-Gen Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) has said that no fewer than five million supporters would converge on Abuja on Wednesday to witness Buharis declaration of bid for the presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress.

The National Secretary of the Buhari Support Group Centre, Ibrahim Dauda, said this at a press briefing in Abuja on Sunday.

He said that arrangements were in top gear to receive the Buharis supporters in the nations capital to witness the declaration of his bid for the APC ticket.

Buhari, who was the presidential candidate of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change in the 2011 elections, is one of the national leaders of the APC, which came into being from the merger of the CPC with other opposition parties.

The others in the merger were the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria, All Nigeria Progressives Party and a faction of the All Progressives Grand Alliance.

Dauda said Buhari would be responding to the clarion call by well-meaning Nigerians to rescue the nation from the catastrophe imposed on it by the failure of leadership.

He said, The occasion is to mark General Buharis official declaration of intent to contest for the Presidency in 2015. It is slated for Wednesday, October 15 2014 at the famous Eagle Square Abuja.

As the frontline political organisation that has been inaugurated and mandated by Buhari himself to be responsible for harmonising and coordinating all the political support groups, among other salient functions, we can say affirmatively that the formal declaration of General Buhari this week will witness the unprecedented attendance of not less than five million passionate supporters of the General.

He said indiscipline, corruption, impunity and incompetent leadership were threatening the countrys existence.
