Zimmerman's parents sue Roseanne Barr

The parents of controversial shooter George Zimmerman are seeking more than US$629,000 in their lawsuit against comic Roseanne Barr.

Robert Zimmerman, Sr and his wife, Gladys, filed a lawsuit against the funnywoman in March claiming they had been forced to flee their Florida home in 2012 after she allegedly tweeted details of their address.

The posts came at a time of high tension between the African-American community and Florida police, who had not yet arrested the couple's son George Zimmerman for the fatal shooting of black teenager Trayvon Martin.

In new legal documents, obtained by TMZ.com, lawyers for the couple allege the Zimmermans are owed costs for moving out of their property including US$6,900 for hotels, US$22,800 for rent and US$7,700 for laundry.

They are also seeking US$600,000 for emotional distress.

Zimmerman was acquitted of second-degree murder and manslaughter last year after a jury ruled he had acted in self-defence.

Roseanne Barr's attorneys say Zimmermans want $750k for tweet

The parents of George Zimmerman want comedienne Roseanne Barr to pay them $750,000 because she posted their address on Twitter, according to federal court records.

The overwhelming majority of their claim - $600,000 - is for emotional harm, according to pleadings filed by Barr's attorneys.

A total of $37,400 is for money Robert and Gladys Zimmerman have already spent, for such as hotel rooms and meals they ate in restaurants because they say they were forced to leave their home and go into hiding after she posted their address on Twitter March 29, 2012.

Barr acknowledges putting the address of their Lake Mary home on the social media site but says she took it down moments later.

Her attorneys contend Zimmerman's parents should collect nothing.

George Zimmerman is the former Neighborhood Watch volunteer acquitted last year of murdering Trayvon Martin, a black 17-year-old.

The Zimmermans filed suit against Barr in March.
